damn .. sorry about the plenum...but damn you got a strong motor!!! I would gladly take a blown plenum and F@#Ked hood anyday over a blown motor!!!
so i guess the best options are new Cosworth or OEM w/spacer as far as plenums go!!??

I thought Luie said he didn't spray, so it wasn't a N20 backfire.
If I'm not mistaken the Injected 9 sec. car runs a Cosworth plenum and their at 1000+whp. I guess the Cosworth will work for Luie as well.

Glad to hear your motor is ok Luie - phew!
If he wasn't spraying N20, who can theorize what happened (why a backfire occurred) when Luie let off the gas? By the impact impressions on the hood, I don't think any plenum could have survived. Having a stronger "top" may simply have resulted in more lower end damage...
Luie, was there any evidence of the explosion on the lower plenum?
And Luie, were you running pure methanol or a 50/50 methanol water mix?
Sounds like you were at the top of 1st (high rpms) with a high duration cam, intake valve still open and had a quick injector cut during the middle of a burn that travelled back through the intake valve, igniting the methanol in the manifold. Just a theory of course, but I suspect, this would've just been a "pop" had methanol not been a part of the equation...
To attempt to prevent this from happening again, I would think it would be safer if the methanol injection is tied to fuel injection directly so when one quits, so does the other. I know one of the aquamist kits does this (the expensive one!).

Bingo!
This is what Jkenefic thinks what happen. I replayed what happen in my head.
On the top of first it started to hop so I let off and back on quickly to try to get her from jumping, on the instance I tried to lay on the gas she was still jumping and she hit the rev limiter, POP, and with the meth in there = blown plenum. We need to figure out a way to make the meth if possible a bit safer. I am getting two bolts from Lowes and triple checking everything and then taking the plenum off and waiting for the little Cosworth to show up.
