Default new 350z owner turbo Q.

so i just got an 06 350z touring model, im really happy with it so far, honestly kinda scared the crap outta me the first time it spun tires.. ive never had a RWD previous to this and my last car was a Lancer ES, fun car but nothinggg like this.. but anywaysss

so in my lancer i was going to do a turbo build, so i have a good idea on how to do it, but i obviously still have learning to do, ive noticed manyy of the turbo builds here are for twin turbo, why is that? why not use just one, isnt 2 kinda overkill? im looking for about 350-400 hp, so i dont need much from a turbo but enough that just about anything is going to lose a race against me (unless they have that twin turbo setup ;D)

if someone could clear up what the difference is and why the twin seems to be more common, also i want it to still be reliable, so if turboing it isnt going to be reliable im not going to turbo it, and ust a quick question, has anyone had luck with going N/A and still pulling about 350 without too much work?

Quick anwser dont go na, expensive for minimal gains.F/I and reliable dont belong in the same sentence just enjoy your car as is, unless you have the money to do it right the first time!

My single boosts at around 3500 . I have to redline it just to get the BOV to go off in neutral and it barely does. I believe the benefit of having duals is boosting at lower RPM's

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new Z. No wonder it scared the pants off you after driving a Lancer. There is no way you'll get 350hp out of a NA car without spending bundles and bundles and then a few bundles more of cash. Have you put your Z on a dyno yet just to see how much its putting out? I stand to be corrected but i thought that people fitted twin turbo's to the DE because of the Vee engine configuration it has twin exhaust manifolds, thus its easy to fit twin turbo's to it

That's funny, I too came from an Es to a 350z. Mine was an 02.

yeah it probably shouldnt belong in the same sentence, but what i mean by it is its not going to break as soon as i start it, one that will last and not blow the engine in 10,0000 miles lol

hmm, maybe a smaller one would help wouldnt it? it spools up faster? your not gonna get as much hp but it may work a little better, and how much psi are you running?

for the most part i figured that, but the most id do would be intake/exhuast, maybe do pistons rods and camshafts, unless the stock piston and rods are actually worth something in these cars, then do some suspension and maybe some transmisson work, on avrg what would you say the gains may be from that? and no i havent ran it on a dyno yet this is my 3rd day with it and ive worked everyday but when i know i have the cash i will, ive seen people putting different numbers with same stock setup so i guess its better to know my whp then be shooting for 350 and not even know ive made it or not lol and this is prolly gonna sound dumb but whats HR and DE? sorry in advance on that one lol

thats cool i had the 06 ES red, and now this is and 06 and its red too XD
i didnt even get my s-techs in before i wrecked it :/ i was gonna put em in the day before but needed a torque wrench to get the strut off. kinda glad cause they wuldve been shot (i jumped a pine tree laying across the road just around a corner at night with it raining, by the time i seen the tree i knew it was done :/ the brakes just locked up and i hit it still doing 35-40, crushed the oil pan in its own @ss, and the motor mounts gave out a bit and it was sitting down on the passenger side about 4 inches, it was pretty bad :/)

The thing to look at is that smaller twins or a larger single can be used in different setups to reach the same horse power goals and relatively similar power band and torque curves. All relative but it more or less falls in line with what the end user wants to be able to do and what do they want to pay for.

twin throttle bodies or single throttle bodies is not a limiting factor when deciding on twins or singles. it just dictates the piping routes which will in-turn dictate when a turbo can be placed. there is less room with the HR style motors for a single setup like the momentum or turbonetics style design in the engine bay. however single turbo mid mount kits like the boosted performance kit is made for the DE and HR engines.

if you are staying around the 400 whp range on a stock block then a vortech SC will be more up your alley. less stress on the rods which seem to be the weakest link of the DE motors.

if you are going to tear the block down and do rods and pistons then that qualifies as a built block and you don't want to waste your time with a smaller turbo that won't be able to keep up and make actually hinder performance. Stock block or not you don't want to go too small for lag sake and not have room to generate top end power.

The HR and VHR engines have a single twin scroll kit, not the mid mount:

Single inlet, dual outlet FMIC:

The 350z twin scroll kit is very much the same, using the same FMIC core, but single inlet single outlet (custom built with two high flow converters):

Thanks Sasha. I stand corrected. I guess was referring more to the location of a single turbo for the HR vs. a DE.

Default what do I need for 500whp

Hey guys. I am currently running a jwt twin turbo kit at 5lbs and making 345whp and 324wtq. I want to push it into the 500whp range and not sure what really needs to be done to make sure it stays reliable. I have a friend who has a supercharger on his and he is making almost 600whp with a fully stock block. I hear most the problems come around 400-450whp. Do we need just rods and pistons? Is there a breakdown of what goes at what hp levels.? Any help would be awesome.

Pics of engine bay and exterior are helpful. Mileage, AT/MT, other mods already on the car? Exhaust, FD. Tune, cams? What bolt-ons are you running?

Ok these are the only pics I have at the moment. I can take more tomorrow. All I have right now is nismo exhaust and the JWT 530. AT tranny tune buy vinny ten. Have a new radiator but not on the car yet. Stock cams. about 58k miles the turbo system was put on at about 35k.

You should talk to vinny ten. He will take care of you.
