Default APS TT Air Filters - Pre Filters?

Since my car has a new body kit, my drivers side filter is open to the air. Which is good and bad. At the last local meet, one of the members suggested i get a pre filter that also repels water ( on certain times i have to drive home on a damp night, I would never drive in the rain.)

http://www.injen.com/docs/products/listing.asp?pcc=rp

I have a couple questions

1. What size are the APS TT air filters?
2. Has any one used a pre filter before?
3. From the Injen Link provided above, what size would i need?
4. Is there any other suggestions?

A picture for reference is added.

the prefilter is just some sort of nylon sock that covers the intake. IMHO you are no safer with or without.

If you have concerns, get some mesh to fill the hole so the bigger debris doesn't hit the filter

What do you care if it 'repels' water? You are only in danger if the filter is submerged and allowed to suck water into the motor. Sock or no sock, it won't matter at that point.

+1. Zivman on the ball, as usual. This is a marketing gimmick.

no more than with a stock bumper. you really only have to be concerned about having the filter be submerged

water injection pumps a fine mist directly into the intake charge. trust me, it's not going to be anywhere close to that quantity in a rainstorm. as long as you don't hydrolock (submerge the filter in water), you'll be fine.

back when i had my turbo ka 240, if i drove in a heavy enough rainstorm then water would hit the mafs causing it to max out. However that was not a blow through setup, with our setups the water would have to go through the turbo and intercooler, at which point it would probably be vaporized

Thumbs up K & N Airforce Pre-Cleaner

This K&N pre-cleaner is specifally designed foam filter wrap made for dusty conditions (i.e off-road). Its not designed for water dispersement... AEM makes a water by-pass for this purpose. Alternatively, fab up a water diverter on the intake opening.

just let it go... is blue tape going to make the compartment water tight.? If you run through a 'puddle' deep enough to submerge the filter I don't think a hydrolocked motor is your first concern
