I think you're spot on with your dx of surge - and I'm not surprised given the size of that turbo. However the BOV spring may not be the only consideration. I would think about the valve speed and max airflow from the BOV.

Not sure what units your gauge has for vacuum measurements, but if 0% vacuum = 14.7 psia = 29.92 in mercury abs = 0 in mercury gauge, and my boost gauge reads about -7 to -9 psi then my car runs at about 15 to 19 in mercury gauge. So I think your vacuum levels are fine, relative to mine at least.

EDIT: If someone has it handy, would love to see the compressor map for this turbo. Just saw your other thread. Tial 50 mm - pretty big - hopefully you will be set with the 9 psi spring (based on the vacuum you report for your engine). I'd like to hear thoughts (from anyone with experience) on when you decide to move to multiple BOVs. I have read that sometimes it is better to use two quicker acting BOVs than one big unit for larger turbos to prevent surge.

PS> nice vid!

Ok 2 things to update today.

1. I swapped the 11lbs spring out for the 9. What a world of difference. It still isnt perfect with a very slight surge/flutter at the beginning of the blow off..but then its a smooth discharge. Im going to step down to the 7psi spring as I feel it will completely eliminate the flutter. But for now its 100 times better.

2. My intercooler has disapeared. =) I will be posing pics up shortly. The now looks/sounds 100% bone stock.

Where did it go? You can see it there..but honestly..from more than 3 feet away at ANY angle..you cannot see it. I told my friends I took the turbo off and they believed me. It worked PERFECTLY.

I also went ahead and ordered a turbo blanket for the car from vsracing.net the housing puts out way too much heat. My iats are constantly 20* hotter than ambient..and the intercooler piping over the turbo is too hot to touch after driving around for a while..also the hood over the turbo gets too hot to touch. Im sure this will solve it since my downpipe is already wrapped. Another thing I noticed is that it seems that putting my swaybar back on and preloading it made a little room for the downpipe since it doesnt hit the side of the car anymore.

You can always cut the hood up to get some more air, bumper too..I know your going for the sleeperness, but some fresh air would do justice..
