A suggestion to find a 1/4 mile drag strip and rent it out was posed. That would be fun too and less expensive and more cars could participate. I'm down for anything and this thread is open to anyone's opinion. Feel free to voice it.
We could use that as a back up plan if approval for the airstrip does not go through... Anyone disagree with that? People with experience with other such events, feel free to chime in - good or bad.

If thats what most want...I will still come and support but on the side lines. I am hoping we get that 8000 feet runway

I like the idea of a long runway for safety reasons. However, I am getting a little uncomfortable with the fastest cars going 170mph+ with very little safety equipment, or safety protocalls. If you are able to secure the big runway, perhaps we can keep the actual "acceleration" portion to less than a mile, and use the rest for staging and a nice long braking zone. This will help keep the top speeds down a little bit.
And if the big track falls through, I think we all agree, that last years airstrip was a blast, nontheless. And this time, I WILL be going up in the little airplane, also known as the glider-with-a-lawnmower-engine.

Safety crew (EMS) will have to be on hand. Sharif, I hear you on the safety factor as cars go beyond 150. We may have shorter races for cars without full cages... I'll be looking to you and Hal to work out these kinds of details. Looks like there's enough interest - good to see.
Next telecon is Fri - will let you know how it goes and what the next steps are.

It's a beastly 465whp DD....see you there!

So maybe this year you'd me more apt to have the spectators drive a 4 door or rent a van?
Last year was full of fail because you had several spectators driving their Z's up there. And you ran out of parking.
