There will be no issue with parking. The issue will be safety for spectators and liability costs. Also, event sponsors along with the airport authority will make the final call re: spectators. Just don't know enough about that part - will be several weeks to iron out the major issues let alone details, but will continue to try to post as the plan solidifies.

Last year was full of fail because you had several spectators driving their Z's up there. And you ran out of parking.

People can jump in my four door and then watch it go down the strip

Definately a good idea to bring helmets if you have them regardless for this type of thing...

And I couldn't tell in the vids. But maybe get some large cones or sign-age (if allowed) of some sort that designates the "running area" so no one comes into the end of the runway doing 150+

Helmets will be required, not optional, at least on paper and the waiver you sign. When you pass the camera equipment you better sure as hell slow down. Brakes were smoking like chimneys last year. Very little room to stop.

Bottom line:

No major airfield will allow us to race down their strips.

We need a PRIVATE AIRFIELD, in order to make this happen like last time.

Most important is that we must have over 20+ participants and have a airstrip in place. The rest of the stuff is minor, we can worrry about that later.

PM on its way - good to see you on the boards and back in the FI forum again Dil! This will be high performance comparative analysis for a publication, not racing per se.

There's many hoops for me to jump through to make this happen and NO guarantee of success - I just got lucky with a contact and decided to pursue it and things kept moving forward... This thread was just to make sure there was sufficient interest in a looong runway event.

[We absolutely need to continue exploring other options - private airfields and drag strips included]. I'd be perfectly happy going back to Hendersonville! I don't think my car would have much advantage after 3000 ft.

Agreed, but let me add that we also need to contact sponsors waaay ahead of time, not at the last minute like last time...

the public airfield if allowed will cost alot of money, therefore its essiential it be hosted by a "Big" Sponser.

Plan of action:

1. BOD approval
2. Airport authority approval
3. Publication selection
4. BIG sponsor selection
5. Fix final date
6. Establish safety protocols, personnel and equipment requirements, insurance reqs.
7. Budget sign off
8. Driver sign up

If you, Sharif, or Hal, feel uncomfortable about any of it and prefer we take a different direction, then I'll drop it and support whatever you guys decide. I think this can be win-win for everyone or I wouldn't be going to the trouble...

Here is the way I look at it Raj/Dil....I will be there to support this no matter what....but my fingers are that you find a field much bigger than the one last season. We were lucky to get away with no accidents on such a small runway......and thats because the people there were respectful of each other and had nothing to prove...

Controlling the speeds on a large runway will not be a problem....you setup braking points and make the rules for runoff.

Now that everyone has seen how much fun we had...more will show up making the chance of things going wrong much greater in a small area.

Mike what's up bro?

I agree with you, but with a large airfield come large liabilites.

If we want to make this happen on a large strip, we need a HUGE sponser. This is why im thinking of contacting SPEED and see if they have any interest in hosting the event.

That way they can take care of everything and it will be televised.

If that can be swung it would be great. They do seem to be into much more smaller one-off type shows lately so this could be great............

Could do an episode of Supercars Exposed the theme could be

"$$$$ supercars vs REAL Supercars" lol

Only downfall is then a couple TT Ford GT's, TT Vipers, TT gallardo's etc and we are done lol.

But they seem to like to setup the shows in one favor or another so maybe they'd be on our side lol.

Since we are kicking around ideas:

How about a pinks all out episode with nothing but Z's and G's. Nate Pritchett is from the Mid-A, he may hate imports though .

Supporting *this* community and having fun doing this is key. Last year was awesome because of the people involved. Too formal, too many folks, too high profile and I don't know it'll turn out to be enjoyable. Just keep it in mind.

That would help get more people there and have less parking. We might even look into renting a van to shuttle people from offsite parking to the airstrip.
