I agree....Thanks for the input...
Hmm.....Alucobond....very interesting...how is it to work with??
As far as my plans are right now is to close up the rear only.....because the exhaust pipes in the center is already setup a groove ....so if the rear works as well as expected.....thats it for me..

Pretty easy really. A bit like 1/4 inch ply i would say but a bit more flexible. You can get it in different thicknesses so obviously the thinner the more bendy.
I'm going to be using 3mm

sounds good mike....no no pm's yet lol
I've only gone up and down real quick to speeds (somewhere well north of 160as the speedo only reads to there.......but well it was well above that is all I know lol).....I didn't look at any of the gauges too much....was concerned with staying on the road lol.....and it is pretty sick how quick we can get up to above speedo speeds with some of these setups isn't it lol.
Um Sharif.....I'm waaaaaiiiiiitttttiiinnnggggg....

Paul at New Wave Fabrication had mentioned a product called "dorsal skin". Perhaps it is similar to alucobond.
I was leaning toward having the prototype made out of aluminum so that we can tweek with it in the wind tunnel if needed. Once we have the design set, then we can use the prototype as a mold for the carbon fiber pieces.

Well, this thread is related to racing so, (if you don't mind, Mike), I have a question that I cannot come up with an answer for. We all know, or have been told, that Ferrari's are great racing machines. Why do they continually get their buts kicked by Porches and Corvettes in GT1 and GT2 racing?
Edit: I have not looked at all races, but every race I see, eigher a Porche or a Corvette wins. I don't see any Ferriris winning, although they are entered in the races.
Please strike that last comment, BMWs won that last GT2 event. Here are results:
1. Hand/Auberlen, BMW E92 M3, 69
2. Mueller/Milner, BMW E92 M3, 68
3. O'Connell/Magnussen, Chevrolet Corvette C6.R, 68
4. Bergmeister/Long, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, 68
5. Melo/Kaffer, Ferrari 430 GT, 68
6. Gavin/Beretta, Chevrolet Corvette C6.R, 67
7. Robertson/Robertson/Murry, Ford GT MK 7, 66
8. Law/Neiman, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, 65
9. Feinberg/Hall, Dodge Viper, 63
10. Henzler/Miller, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, 56
11. Farnbacher/James, Panoz Esperante GTLM, 54
Anyway, in accordance with my previous comments, Ferriari came in behind BMW, Chevy and Porsche. Yet, they are considered the racing king. Why???????????????????
It seems to me that they need stop worring about show and start producing a little more go......
Now, we just need a GTR to come in there and participate.

Well, 100% of the BMW's on that list came in top spots. 100% of the Ferrari's came #5. Thus, imo, BMW >>> Ferrari (at least in GT2 racing ). I think Eagletanggreen will back me on that one (if he's still peeking in here once in a while).

FRANKLY (lol) Ferrari should be embarrassed to be beat by a BMW, Chevy AND Porsche, all in one race. (OK, Porsche I might understand)...... Mind you, this is GT2 where they are keeping a lot of stock features.
Now we just need Nissan to get a GTR in there and give Ferrari another good @ss whoopin.

BTW GT (next years class name, this year its still GT2) is frickin awesome now
Look at the lineups
Ferrari - F430
BMW - M3
Porsche - 911 GT3
GM - Corvette
Ford - GT
Dodge - Viper (maybe that the vette is in now, they'll take the huge restricter off the viper and let it be competitive again)
Panoz - whatever that thing is called these days lol
Rumor mill says that Audi maybe be bringing the R8 into GT once they leave P1
Phenomenal

If you look at Ferrari's in F1.....they are always on top because its factory support which means they spends a **** load of money.
In GT....MOST times Ferrari is not a factory effort....its usualy private....unlike the Corvette, Porsche BMW and so on that are factory backed.....or just simple...their drivers suck...
Ferrari gets alot of respect because of its loooooong history in racing..
my 1 cent

Hey so are you going to have a navigator with you? What are your plans for timing? Because you do have a "target speed" right? and are trying to finish at .000 I assume? I ran the BBORR this past April and by pure luck had an average speed of 124.952 in the 125 target speed class and ended up with a 3rd place trophy@ 1.3 seconds fast...which means there were two other competitors UNDER 1.3 seconds over 118 miles..CRAZEE! Believe it or not, I used a 10 dollar digital kitchen timer from walmart! LOL I set it up to count DOWN 28:32 for the first leg of 59 miles and deducted the 32 seconds fast that I was at the half way point..raced second leg and stopped the timer as I crossed the line. Couldn't freaking believe it read 0000 when I looked after I parked!.just curious what you're thinking. I assume you are planning on running the NORC next spring right? I have thought about doing the BBORR AND the norc next year..just not sure I can go to Nevada right after the BBORR. We'll see!
Anyway....Yes I will have a co-pilot for sure.....We will get a chance to do a few runs before the event to get an idea of what and how we should run it.
I do understand how the clock can mess you up....to come third with times like that is crazy
I do plan to run the BBORR and also the next Texas mile.....I am sure I will will get to see you at one of them...
Sorry I did not see your post ....I was reading from the iPhone.
I am thinking next week....

Rules always end up penalizing certain layouts and engine types throughout racing series so to make stupid comments such as yours (multiple times in a row of course), I would hope you knew all of the regulations before hand so you could rule out that Ferrari is not handicapped by the restrictions.
right.

I posted primarily because I think it would be fun to get an exchange of opinions on the subject.
The latest Car and Driver issue gave me the thought. As always, the Ferrari is portrayed as the god of all sports cars. Not that I follow GT1 and GT2 racing that closely, but if the Ferrari were as great a sports car as the car magazines make them out to be, it seems to me they should be winning more of these races.
As others have noted, Ferrari may not be providing factory backing for the Farrari teams, and thus the teams that are factory sponsored may simply have more resources. (Although I think some of the Porsche teams that are not factory sponsored are donig well). Such posts are an example of the conversation I was looking to trigger.
Not trying to jack the thread Mike. It just sounds like a fun subject to discuss, and is tangentially related to many of the subjects we are discussing herein.
