Crank knife edging
Well im starting my bottom end for my build and will be having the crank polished and balanced, just curious if anyone has any experience with knife edging the VQ crank. Some cranks can be shaved more then others and I havent come across anyone doing it on the VQ, is there not enough material on our stock cranks to make the benefit outweight the cost of machining? Pros/Cons/heresay?? Carillo has an extensive set of pics online somewhere detailing the procedure and results but not on a VQ.

I have never heard of any one Knife edging the crank on a VQ I would have looked into it more but I bought a built engine. You would think the same principals apply, the only thing I can see is people seem to push decent power (800-1000) with a stock crank that is balanced and polished so it may be more money you dont need to spend unless you were shooting for huge numbers I would like to know if anyone has tried it yet of has a reason not to try it.

its not really necessary. however, i spent a lot of time polishing my crank so its nice and smooth so oil wont stick. i forget which company it is that does a slick coating on cranks for that same purpose. but, when its all said and done; its not really needed.

The only discussion about knife edging was the fact he had it done no results from anyone and no opinions about it expressed either, seemed to be more focused on the cryo treating but no results with that either so the link/ thread is not useful...unless you track down Julien or who ever owns the car that crank went into.

Knife-edging reduces rotational mass so the engine can spin up quicker. But it also lets the engine spin down quicker. We knife-edge alot of inline four and inline six cranks.V-6 and V-8 cranks are very hard to due because of balancing issues.
