I use CANBus a lot in my job. THink of it as a network, lets say you have three computers networked together. They can only communicate through certain ports and channels, and only if the "permissions" are right.
If you want to change what one computer is changing on the network, you have to "change the message" either by logging into that computer and changing the send/receive message, or changing how it is interpreted by other computers on the network.
These ECUs for the Z33 was very complex when they came out compared to the rest of the market. NOw not so much.
The readiness test, is a hard coded test in the ECU. So many checks and results clear one module, then triggers the next step of the test. IF Uprev, really does have the ability to rewrite the readiness test, then their market value just went through the roof. Now I am not saying that UPREV can rewrite the readiness test, but if they can, woot for many many people.
When I was working for Momentum, and a dealer for Uprev, they never mentioned this, especially when we were struggling to get one of our cars to pass, but this may be a new developement.

First of all I want to explain how illegal crossscanning is, you cant just go to a shop and ask them to do it for you. In NYS if a shop gets caught doing it, the inspector gets fined as well as the shop ***end disclaimer
Basically nissans and most imports dont have vin #s in the ecu, unlike domestic cars that do.. So if you go to a shop with a car that is stock and identical year as yours, scan your registration, but plug the obd2 scanner(or whatever your state does) into his car, you will pass. And because you use your registration, when its time for the "donor car" to get inspection for real, it wont be a problem.. And you get your sticker..
Good luck!! haha

I hear what your saying 100%... The proof for me is in the inspection, and the fact that I passed without and issue... I think this may be something new through Uprev, but I am not concrete on that. NY is a tough state to pass in, and if it helped me, hopefully it can help many many other members.
