Recommend mileage for breakin on TT motor
Hey guys I have a ipp stage 2 long block that I'm at 1500 miles so far on breakin. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice or there opinion on how may miles I should put on the motor before having it tuned.
I have greddy 18g TT full kit,fully build motor,heads done,JWT s7 cams,aam fuel return, DW 850cc injectors,cosworth intake,14.7 wastgate springs with opendumps, I'm goin to be doing the rest with a boost controller. The tuner said depending on how the motor likes boost I'll should be around 17 to 19 lbs of boost on 93 pump gas.
I'm a little concerend with the whole thing in general,but the tuner is saying put 3000 miles on it for breakin. alot of people I have talked to on the street that I know who has built motors ( not vq35s ) has told me 1000, 1500, to 2000 miles and I'm good. I talked to the builder and he said 1000 miles. What do you guys think? and thanks in advanced!!!!!

Yea guys thats what I was thinking. I think the tuner maybe just trying to cover his butt maybe. I just want to make sure my i's are dotted and my t's are crossed. That and I have been reading on 2 guys that had issues with import part pros motors and then I have read bout plenty of others who are happy with ipp. Ipp has been good with me so far so I have noting bad to say as of rt now. I just don't need any problems thats why I'm looking for imput on this......Thxs guys again!!!!

if the piston rings haven't seated by now, something aint right. most people do 1k, its a huge debate, I have seen people put 50 miles on an engine and beat the snot out of it and it ran for over 100k miles. My personal IPP Stage 2 long block had 1000 break in miles and failed on the way to the dyno due to a bad deck, and all the rings gaps being in a straight line. Most of the engine builders, not all, but most believe loose is fast and if you happen to have this kind of builder break in time is reduced, but high boost levels also have blow by.
just my 2 cents no matter the break in period, if the tolerances are not spot on your gonna have a bad time

I personally do an oil change at 50 miles to get the nasty crap out of there then i change it again at the 1000 mile mark and consider it 100% ready to go. On the race bikes i do it's a lot sooner than that but not relavent to this post.

i did light-no-load for first couple hundred miles...then on base boost started getting on it for about 100 miles.....changed oil at 300mils, turned 768rwhp at about 315miles on new motor but after an oil change...

ive been researching this as I am getting a high boost full engine built now too.. and from what i have read, it appears the car should not be started until it can be driven fairly hard with load to properly seat the rings in a linear fashion and in a manner that will allow the to best scrape the cylinders throughout its life..(this seems to be why base maps are good so the car starts and is reasonably safe to rev up before true tuning....) guess it has something to do with the microscoring on cylinders newer engines.. dunno, i just spouting off stuff i heard....but i did hear you should start it and run it hard for 50 miles to get em sealed up straight. After that, its just a question of general break in, oiling, coating etc..
just my 2 cents.. appears its the first minutes of the engines life that are the most important. Id love to hear if im wrong.. like i said, im curious as to whats best too.

Thanks guys, With the 18gs they spool up pretty quick so my breakin the car has seen 5 lbs of boost somtimes 6. It was hard to not see boost getting on a hwy. or when a light turns green just picking up speed going tru the gears. So in simple words there was a load on the motor during breakin.
