I've built a turbo kia running 4psi(for around $500) and a spectra running 18psi.(built motor and quality parts were used on that one) The 4psi sephia ran 15.2 quarter mile (stock 17.2) the spectra was never ran and was just sold last week, but it pulled away from an s4 that raced it a few times

I beat on my cars. Even my limo I was trying to drift in it in the last snowstorm haha

In addition the utec has an ignition boost cut.

If you can't push open a wastegate with a 4psi spring then you have some serious muscle issues.

no its a matter of physics your thumb isnt going to exert much force, be pushing it at 10-15 pounds which is then divided across the surface of the thumb at about half a inch, and 1.5 inchs for a 40mm wastegate/bov and your looking at 5-7.5 psi. now factor in the fact that a REAL 4 psi spring actually takes about 40 lbs to compress and its easy to see why someone could barely open one(notice i said barely open it in my previous post not couldnt.). i can tell you for a fact my 14 psi spring in my wastegate took 180 lbs to compress to put it back togeather, we actually measured it because i dint think of my vise and where suprised.

like i said if your easily opening your "4 psi" spring with your thumbs its probably closer to a .25-.5 psi spring and my statement stands that its open all the time and our leaking boost.

also previously in the thread you said you built 2 kias with ebay kits now our saying one was a built motor with quality parts?

One was ebay parts. Other one was a kfx kit with an ebay turbo, but once he upped the boost and built the motor he went to a tial wastegate and greddy turbo

Great thread idea, I've always wondered about those kits. Forget the haters, If it works it makes it that much better, if it doesn't its a learning experience.

absolutely. she drives 20-25min to work every day and it's a good on gas mileage and she works with kids so her car is always full of toys and crafts and stuff like that. To be fair, I got my 350z before we got married and she got the spectra after we got married so it's all good. cars don't really matter to her.

It's not fun, cars behind you hate you and the exhaust drone is horrible at that speed in 6th gear

Just spent the past 2 hrs removing half of the system to install the wastegate pipe(since it has to be installed on the downpipe prior to the downpipe being installed in the car)
Will have more work done tomorrow and hopefully I will have it started.

Installed wastegate(nothing much to see) uploaded map/para to utec. Started car. Upon reading more into the utec I found you have to use the MAP and the MAF(under 25% throttle) to tune. So I am buying a map sensor housing. I noticed the exhaust does leak on the joints and I am going to have to take apart the v-bands and use some furnace cement to fill in any gaps
