BUDGET Turbo Project- Started
Nice job man. I'm doing a similar build as we speak but with a built engine. I found a hell of a deal on a built FP block which needed a new sleeve and piston. I'm putting it all back together with a buddy of mine. So far the bottom end is done and this weekend I will get the heads on. I also bought the same turbo kit but I will be upgrading the turbo, wastegate, bov and making the down pipe 3 inches all the way. Right now it's 2.5 at the flange and the rest is 3 inches.
Hope it all works out man.

Just purchased

$214 for a single 3" exhaust to a factory like canister. I will probably install this weekend and take a sound clip. I will review on how it sounds compared to my $1300 exhaust I had on before

Might sound better with the turbo acting as a resonator. Ebay is a buyers market, I have no problem getting my money back for anything.
I got in an accident which ruined my front bumper/fender and right wheel and waiting for the shop to paint my fender
Exhaust still leaks, I need to take it completely off and buy v-band flange gaskets to seal correctly.
My new oil drain line cracked and is leaking(rubber) I need to replace.
Wastegate spring origionally was boosting 6.4psi, but now will not go over 3.4. I will get a mbc to fix.

Will lmfao when the impeller explodes on your first dyno pull because the waste gate fails and you spin it to infinite rpm and the shards destroy your motor.
Cheap crap. What do you really expect to get for under 1500? All that time and labor and all you will have is a poorly running car or a blown motor.
You were warned.

Well..., I modified the WG spring, which probably didn't help. The WG sees pressure right from the turbo outlet(as usual). I did have a small intake manifold leak, but I purchased a kinetix v+ plenum from a member on this site and waiting for my gasket material to come in to put it on. I will check boost after that. A/F is perfect around 11.5ish in boost, so my map is definately reading the correct boost.
Faced added by my little brother
I've heard that the V+ plenum sucks huge dong for boosted applications...actually it just sucks in general. It will leak under boost and the center support post will erode away. It seems to be a horrible part. You're better off with stock.
Still sitting in my garage. I've sold two cars since june and bought another that I've been working on(own 4 vehicles) I'm going to gray rtv the kinetix on this weekend(if I say it I have to do it right?
) If that doesn't work I'm just getting a stock plenum gasket and putting the stock back on with no spacer
Are these GTR injectors or the "Drop in plug and play" injectors from TLF Performance on ebay? If they're from TLF, I'd suggest pulling them immediately, throwing them on the ground and pissing on them.
They are not suitable for use in any engine, period. The guy literally dremels the holes out on the metering caps (the ones I held in my hand had drill marks on the caps). If you look carefully, you can see that the holes have become oblong instead of round- the same shape you get when you drill a hole in sheet metal. There are also serious burrs around the holes that become obvious once you look at the cap under any magnification. Spray patterns are crap and dynamic flow rates are all over the place when people have them flowed by reputable third parties like FIC, Witch Hunter, etc. People have seen as much as 25% variance across a set of injectors. Pushing them hard will cost you an engine.
I've searched and never found any info on them here, which is why I'm posting this. Lots of Supra guys got burned by TLF (some literally). Melted pistons, blown engines, car fires from trying to clear the flood caused by the injectors locking open the first time they were powered up, etc.
A set of OEM GTR 570cc injectors can be had for almost the same price if you troll the GTR forums.
I do like this thread though. I love experimentation, even if it's not pretty. My experience over the past 15 years has been that the cost of a build is inversely proportional to the knowledgabilities and competence of the person doing the build. You do get what you pay for, but you don't necessarily have to pay for it with money.

I have a Kinetix Plenum that is not on the car, but had gasket problems, so I just installed a stock plenum with no spacer. No reason why, just don't want to take it apart again
@Kilo Yes I am using TLF injectors. They seem to work well for me, though I am not even close to pushing them to their max, but good to know if I see any problems in the future
I am going to get rid off all v-band flanges and weld 2 bolt flanges instead this winter so I don't have to deal with exhaust leaks.. Car has not even seen 1000 miles turbocharged yet. I am working two jobs for extra play money, so I am hardly working on any of my cars one day a month(I don't really have any bills. My house and all my cars are paid off and I rent a room to pay for heat/electricity/cable)
