Thumbs down Vortech gurus. Enter... 928m impeller. Shredded :-(

Yes it's only been 2k miles on my build/rebuilt blower w the 928m impeller 2 autoXs down and well over 150+ hard pulls and today at the end of my last run I heard a very scary noise and found this 👎👎 yes I am overspinning the blower to 7400 rpm. She made 608whp/446tq..My question is this bearing failure or something else?? Seem to have moved enough to shave itself down and does not spin free.i will be pulling blower and sending it back to 928m for a full inspection. Contacting them via email as we speak.

ouch! could the shaft be flexing under high rpm/boost?

shaft or bearing failure.

When my bearings failed (vortech manufacturing issue back in 2007-8 or so) that is what it did but on a much smaller scale. It was noisy as hell when it did it. I was on the way to a car meet and could hear it immediately. Pulled the belt off. My grinding was very minimal.

you and me both... if this is bearing failure i would assume it would be from overspinning? we will see what carl says.

yeah. I think so far there's not a bearing capable of holding it. if Carl says it was that maybe your only option would be to upgrade the whole blower.

Hay Johnattan,

Sorry to hear about your Blower…..Looks like you have been Beating on that Blower pretty Hard. The V2 is a Street Blower.

You might want to Look at a fairly New Race Blower Vortech has out.

It's a V1 Ti Trim, rated at 1400cfm…. (The V1 has much larger bearing)

Randomly throwing this out there, and I don't know jack ****.... but... since you replaced the vortech bpv with a TialQ BOV. Would that cause anything like this at all?

Kush I went w the tial Q after seeing the success the mustang community w much larger blowers were having w it. They make a special spring just for superchargers

Yes, V1, V2, V3 and V7 all have the same bolt pattern.

The shards/dust are ingested by the engine. I'd get leakdown compression test and spend some time with a boroscope before boosting again.

Intercooler should trap most of it I would think. If it's fine enough to travel through the IC, it would probably just go right out the exhaust port also... I would force water backwards through the IC to clean it out or swap out to a new IC if you see lot's of debris in there and don't think you can clean it. Don't forget to check the IC piping.

Sorry for your loss. It was a beast while it lasted.
I believe the 2.87 pulley with fluidampr crank pulley puts your blower at 65,156 rpm when revving to 7400rpm. No bearing could hold that.

You're also exceeding 928m's max rpm rating for the impeller too:
"Each impeller is spin balanced to 0.006 grams/inch, and designed to operate up to 60,000 rpm"

What size is the fluidampr in inches? Also has anyone ran this v1 TI trim? 3k is a steep steep price to be a Guinee pig. Also would I not be overspinning that blower as well or is it capable of making this kind of power without such a small pulley. A lot if research I gotta do before I make any decisions last thing I wanna do is have it rebuilt and do this again.

You would not be a Guinee Pig…….

The Vortech V1(HD) Race Series Blower is Tuffer and Stronger the the V2(Std) Street Blower.

The V1 Ti-trim will push more Air (1400cfm) than your 928 impeller (1150cfm) at less RPM.

The WEAK part of your Build is the Blower……

You could go with the V7 YSi-Trim (1600cfm) A Super Tough Race Proven Blower.

I know guys that have made 26+PSI with No Belt Slip, when using My Radius Rod

by there own words "almost" 1200 cfm at 50k vs the one old man posted of 1400 at 55k. its not like its some brand new start up company there isnt a "being a guinea pig" you should know not many people go super charger for big power. if you have questions its best to use google, just because it might be on a different car it will still perform the same way.

edit: old man posted while i was typing.
