Exclamation Those with Vortech PLEASE HELP!

I was at my tuners today, while the were tuning my car with the r4 software. The car was running really rich, so the mechanic took some feul out, to lean it out a bit. When they re-dyno'd the car, at around 4,300 rpms, the car went VERY lean, like it had hit fuel cut-off. so the mechanic went back in and put the numbers back to factory, but still the same problem!? This is the first time they have used the R4 software, and are not quite sure, what is going on.
What I am asking for is any advice on how to tune with the R4 software, and if there is a way to bring it back to "out of the box" settings.
THANKS for any help.

p.s. dyno'd without tune was 375 whp 312 trq

Sounds to me like the second pump hasnt kicked in. If you dont setup the output settings and other variables before you read the ECU, it doesnt load the map correctly.
Check out this thread, for the info that you require.

Talking congrats on the Vortech

Pimprider2000

Hey congrats on your Vortech. I hope you get everything ironed out quicky so you can hit the road. Not trying to steal your thread but where in Ohio are you? I got a DB Z up in Bowling Green, I am considering the Vortech kit and would love to see one in action. It would be nice to get some Ohio Z's together for a cruise. Good luck on your FI and I hope to hear somegood kill stories soon.

I have not yet begun to mess with the R4 software but something makes me think that I read a thread where adding a new customer to the R4 software changes when the pump comes on...FluidZ or others will know alot more about this

Here is the thread:

There's not necessarily agreement about when the auxiliary pump should come on... But basically it is needed at the point at which boost begins to kick in (i.e. above 2500-3000 rpms or so).

has nothing to do with mileage. its the way you drive. i get 23 to 24 mpg cruising 75 on the freeway. the pump doesn't come on while driving normal.

Agree with that 350zer, you can drive pretty fast whilst still being in vacuum state, cruising that is.

Okay, they have figured out the problem, it was the aux fuel pump, but now the check enigine light comes on and the have no Idea why, he said that the engine is runing aroun 12.1 all the way to 5,700 rpm, and it may still be a little lean after that. any suggestions?

The check engine light did not come on with the original "out of the box" program.

ps. the engine code is 000000 so its not giving a code

Thanks for any help

Maybe worth giving the ECU a reset, then.

Thats just it ....its set at 1000 rpm and -3.99 meaning -3.99 vacuum ...not boost. So the 2nd pump is running all the time , Do both values have to be met or just one of them....I think it just one....Am I not getting this right ?

No, both values have to bet met before the pump will start.

we had the same problem last night with a customers car on the dyno. thanks to those on this forum who posted how to fix this issue... because we had never used the R4 software before and we never would have expected this "bug" when you download the maps to edit.

the output setting needs to be set at "Over rpm AND Pressure" not "Over rpm OR Pressure"...........then it will only come on when boosting.............and not at 1,000 rpm...... ................mine is set to Over rpm AND Pressure and the rpm is set to 1,000 and pressure is at 1 psi................

fluidz, you say you not tuned but if your running 1000 rpm and 1 psi then you have done some tuning correct? Or did yours come from vortech with those parameters preset.

mine is set to 500 rpm and over 1 psi from Vortech..........I just checked............500rpm or 1,000 rpm would not make any difference as long as the feild is set to "Over rpm AND pressure"

Yeah, you're not likely to see 1psi until 2000 rpms, so there's no reason to set it any lower than that.
