Will a Vortech Kill my Engine?
I am soooo close to pulling the trigger on this Vortech system, but, have become worried that it could blow up my engine.
Question: If i am running a stock car, and a stock vortech kit, stock maps, tuning....., is it a good possibility I could blow my engine up?

I installed mine with a couple of buddies and its awsome! No problems yet. But i have an AEM wideband installed to for a piece of mind.Plus JWT oil pan spacer tapped plus i get an extra quart of oil to boot. Get the Vortech its a great kit. I also ordered 9lb pulley and 34 tooth cog pulley.

This is probably going to sound worse than I mean it to sound but it seems as though your maturity and/or decisiveness level may not be high enough at this point to make the leap to forced induction. If you are at all on the edge, do not do it.

Hope this helps, btw it's worth learning about it because then you will too know what it feels like to top out the suspension on WOT acceleration.

I know you guys might flame me for this but what the heck, since i am being such a worry wart, and "undeceive" do you guys think a Stillen stage 3 would be a better match?
Thanks,
Jordan
If you want a "fire-and-forget" supercharger that retains the warranty and you don't mind the hood change (I don't think it looks all that bad, personally--it actually makes the car look more aggressive) then the Stillen is DEFINITELY for you.

If you don't have the cash to spare to build or replace the motor if it goes (in the unlikely chance), then FI as a whole is probably not for you.
I think the very best thing you could do is to sit down with a reputable installer in your area, and get some recommendations from them. Focus on the shops that are on the harder core side of the equation and who are strong with engine management. Or you can call Vortech and see if they have a recommended installer in your area.
This is a very expensive course you are considering embarking on, and speaking from experience, it takes much more money than just the price of the components to get the car running as it should.
Follow Gspot35's advice....he's got it right on the money

Adding F/I to any car is taking a big risk. I was worried about blowing my motor.... Would I go back to stock.. heck no...if something happens I'll deal with it...
You might do better by just adding a bunch of mods... exhaust.. intake.. etc..
The Stillen is a nice kit, but I couldnt deal with the hood. Plus buy the time you get the hood, and paint it you could have gotten into a twin turbo kit.
one more question to ask....
has ANYONE had stillen (or their insurance carrier) actually follow thru and replace a motor??
are they in litigation with any unfortunate motor-blown-up owners now???
someone must know this.....
reason i propose this is because i once got a third party warranty on a watercraft i had, and i precisely blew it to kingdom come :^(
by the time i requested warranty work, NO DEALER would do it, as they told me they were slow to get paid from the warrantor (sp?)....
find out EVERYTHING on this deal, since it is the centerpiece of your basis for decision......
also, the vortech kit is safe (IMO)..they OVERfuel/retard it to make it safe here in fl (5' above sealevel) and in colorado (mile+ above sealevel).....
i would locate a tuner FIRST, and get it straight with them.... (likely, they will install).... the only way tuning can hurt is if you lean it out too much, and then drive it under load.......
decisions decisions..........

I understand that Stillen has a warranty, like ES says, they are a pain in the a$$ to collect on. Will Stillen honor it if you have other non-Stillen Parts? i.e. NISMO headers, hi-flow cats, and such??
I would prefer to focus on minimizing the chance of anything happening. Plus isn't the roots-type blower actually harder on the engine?
Z1 you got me a little worried considering I just committed to the Vortech! I will not be a happy camper if my engine blows! I know a few people have had problems, and that really sucks. I hope they can figure out where things went wrong. I think there are steps you can take to apprach zero chance of blowing the engine with a Vortech....
1 - I think the fuel setup on the stock Vortech is a bit of a kluge in my books; I mean adding a piggyback pump and ramming fuel into the stock injectors does not sound like a good thing in the long run. Properly sizing the injectors, going to a fuel return system to allow for precise tuning - Z1 can set you up with a most elegant solution (Adam you can grease my palm later!)
2 - I understand that Higher Flow with headers, Plenum will actually decrease the boost of the Vortech my maybe .5 - 1 psimax, and I hope it does!!!! I mean you'll still get gains from these mods, and I would accept getting a few horses less from the Vortech if by redcing PSI it means less strain on the engine.
3 - Because the centrifugal spins up slowly, this provides the least strain on the engine right? I mean if you want your engine to spool up faster get a lightweight flywheel and I bet the Vortech/flywheel combo will get a great power curve on tap
4 - Invest in a set of complete high quality guages - Boost, EGT, A/F, Fuel Pressure, and Oil Temp. If you see any sign of trouble, just stop ASAP! - let the Vette win!!!
5 - Make sure not to hammer it until your engine reaches operating temperature - I mean even the M3 has or had an RPM with a redline that actually increased as the oil reached operating temperature - that's a stock vehicle.
6 - Do NOT get tempted to go beyond the basic PSI shipped with the kit - not unless you build-up the engine.
I have a hard time thinking that you will blow your engine if you take measures like the above.
Thoughts anyone??
