Default Vortech made a spit/sputting noise around 6500 rpms

I heard a new sound today that made me worry. At full throttle, around 6500 to 6800 rpms, the engine made a sound that is hard to describe. The best way I can describe it is that is sounded how I imagine a clogged injector might sound as it tries to force gas out. Could this be the injectors dumping fuel? I remember John at Grubbs telling me that they took massive amount of timing out up top and they made it very rich at 6800 rpms. If I remember correctly, he said they would in essence act lake a governor. Does any of this make sense? It is so difficult to describe sounds in print.

I am not sure if this was pinging, as I have never actually had someone point out to me exactly what pinging sounds like. It was not high pitched, but there were very distinct sounds that were close together and numerous. I heard these noises with the windows up and the radio off.

I intend the take the coupe to a shop this week to have it checked out. In the meantime, I will take it easy on the engine. Any thoughts?

I had mine on the dyno when tuning the 3.125 pulley . Had so much fuel going in that it popped at high rpm's. But Yours sound like its making a diff. noise . I havent heard ping either , so take it easy till you get it in . You may have gotten some bad gas and it is pinging...good luck....bill

Was the ECU reflashed ? Your sig says you have a 04 Automatic so I dont think you do since the 04 flash isnt available yet.
....... it sounds like you are hitting the rev limiter.
I have auto too and have hit the rev limiter and it scared the crap out me.

What boost were you running? Do you know the peak value? I changed my plugs to Denso Iridiums, 2 steps colder, and under 8.5 psi, I have a lag at around 6200 rpm's. It does not really produce a sound, but rather, it sounds like the car pulled timing for just a second. The WBO2 is reading at around 11.4 and is not moving, so I know mine is not fuel.

The best way to describe it is almost as if the motor hesitates for just a second. I think this may be an issue with the plugs, as it did not happen with my old plugs. I am having the plugs changed as soon as I can get a new set. I will let you know what I find out.

How many miles do you have on your Vortech?

Did you get the Oil change issue resolved?

If you felt a power loss and sputter/spit noise, it's probably not pinging. Could be a misfire or bad plugs or whatever. The pinging sounds like metallic rattling noise...very distrinct. Instead of your motor sounding smooth and vrrooooom...it its like vrooom..rattle...rattle.

Booger,

Not yet. I've been real busy this week (catching up from vacation last week). I will try to get to the shop early next week.
