Default HKS supercharger driving impressions

I love this set-up.......

The best way to describe this set-up is "civilized". The sound is perfect. Just a faint jet-like whine to let you know something is lurking under the hood. Under acceleration through my Nismo exhaust, it is pure music to my ears...the same overall sound as the Nismo alone but with a new powerful depth to the sound. At cruise...get this.....it is significantly quieter than just the Nismo exhaust on the stock motor.

Power delivery is instant, silky smooth, linear. Plenty of punch. Above 5000rpm, however, it does start to feel a little strained, but still nothing to get too upset about.

The system lives up to all its claims. I think it is an ideal power level for the stock bottom end. More power than any and all NA mods could ever get you, while still being very quiet and easy to live with as well.

Very happy with my choice.

Very nice, good to hear your happy with it. If you make it tunable by upgrading the ECU solution im sure there are things you can do to increase the top end when you get the urge for more power down the track.

Does anyone have any recommendations about the HKS surpecharer installed in the A5T tranny 350 Z. I prefer the manual tranny and have always driven and raced manuals, but a tendon injury in my left ankle has forced me to go auto tranny, alas. The issue I have heard with FI in general for the A5T 350Z is that if you leave it in the full auto mode with FI, it tends to hit the rev limiter before it shifts gears at WOT runs through the gears. I know you can use the triptronic mode, but I don’t like the lag in shifting that way all that much near redline and wish we could be FI for the auto tranny that shifted well in full auto mode. Any comments. Anyone have Level 10 in NJ do the 350Z tranny upgrades and have feedback on effectiveness with these issues?

somebody said you can change the stall to make it shift better. I am ordering my HKS and have a auto but I like the autoshift and dont get any lag as long as I shift at high rpm's

VERY very interesting PumpedVA…I am in MD you are in VA. I am thinking of having Evolution Autosports in Chantilly, VA, do the install if I decide on the HKS supercharger. Where are you getting yours done? I have real good solid reports on Evolution from customers. They have done a number of the Vortech installs on 350 Zs, some are here on this website, and these people have good reports on Evolution. I have spoken to Jeff over there at Evolution and one of their mechanics. Just curious about who will do your install and why you selected them. I am open minded. Last time I called, Evolution had done no HKS charger installs, but was very confident they could with no problem considering their success with Vortech installs on 350Zs. Level 10 in NJ SAYS they CAN cure the auto tranny shift issues with FI. They do a valve body mod, stall speed mod, torque converter mod and other tweeks, but I have not heard of any yet who have had this done for first hand customer feedback on success or not – but would sure like to get this feedback. Level 10 is near enough to MD for me to drive up there and leave the car for a week. I like the way my 350Z shifts in full auto mode as well, but I have heard many on this website complain of hitting the rev limiter with Prochargers, Vortechs, etc., installed. I would really like to hear that both the HKS supercharger and auto tranny tweeks can be done with success and quality in order to make my final decision. Like the guy on the X Files TV show, “I want to believe…” but I am not naïve. Please post any and all feedback about this PumpedVA. Perhaps a sharing of info would enhance both our interests. GOOD LUCK and please post early and often on all this.

did you install it yourself? and wondering how reliable it is... and if you did do the install, was it difficult? how long did it take to install?

Got it installed at XXtuning near Hartford, CT. Took them 20 hours including ARC high capacity oil pan, some Denso Iridium plugs, and defi boost and Fuel Pressure gauges. Fuel system is the hardest part. It involves disassembly of the stock fuel pump, and integration of the auxillary fuel system. Instructions are complete but poorly organized. Some factory parts need to be relocated, some need to be cut. The MAF needs to be physically altered as well. Probably could have done it myself, but knowing my temprement, I would have gotten just too frustrated at times.

speedracer congrats on the install!

what does boost look like? at what rpm does it begin to go positive, and when do you hit peak? what is peak boost? does it maintain to redline or drop off?

Could you describe the MAF modification a little? is it a voltage clamp or bigger housing?

sorry for all the questions... if you can help with any of those I would really appreciate it! also looking forward to seeing that dyno charg

Thank in advanced
