I looked at both as well.
Test drove the Z and fell in love with it. It was perfectly in my price range and so I went home and thought aobut it a bit more. Really liked the fact that it had such a sporty feel to the car and I was intrigued by the option of getting a convertible (since I was also looking at the s2k at the time).
The G was out of my price range at the time but decided to check it out anyways. Keeping in mind my previous car was an Acura CL Type-S I felt right at home with the G. I was ok with sacrificing some of the hardcore sporty feel of the Z for a few little refinements and the extra 2 seats that are acutally reasonable to fit an average person into (notice I said AN average person, not 2).
Nevertheless I got sold on the 2005 G35 and was able to get some really good VPP pricing on it. I liked the little stupid thing on there that others wouldn't such as the motorized feature on the navi screen, the blingy 19" wheels they came with, and the little trim accents on the interior of brushed metal that really gave it a nice touch. That combined with the level of service I got at my dealership and every single time I bring it in for repairs or maintenance is why I chose it. Owning a car is a long term experience for me persoanlly. Oh and I'm loving the long warranty and think I'm gonna extend it in a bit once I decide how long I'm gonna keep this car.
Some of the negatives after owning the G are that 1) it's so expensive to replace these 19" tires that came on my 6MT 2) no one actually sits in the back seat b/c I have tons of crap back there 3) I want to make this thing just a tad quicker but it's a fat fat beast.
I'm by no means a race track star nor your w/end drag race so it was comfortable and convenient to have. Since I've almost paid off this thing I think hte next car I get will have to someday be a Z OR othe true sports car out there. Don't confuse yourself into thinking the G is some hardcore sports car because really it's not. If you're looking for something like that then I think the Z would be more fitting.

I drove my freinds 03 z and that thing was too hard on the clutch but the newer ones are much softer G's and Z's are both reaLLY GREAT LOOKING CARS, If u want one thats a bit faster you go with the Z if you want the one that has plenty of power and more luxury you go with the G.......... Since these cars are harder to drive than others i take so many Z's beause their owners cant drive for **** lol

Ask What A G Is And They Might Stutter And Not Know, They Might Say It's A Nissan, Or They Might Say The Car That's Like The Z?
If Im Such A Badge *****, Then Why Do You Guys Bother Putting "skyline" On Your Cars? If That Makes You Feel Better Or Faster To Have That Emblem! Hahaha
Regardless, When The Gt-r Comes Out We Will All Get Owned.

I actually hated the Z's when they came out and loved the G's.
The 07's caught my eye with the subtle changes. Although I still love the G, side by side, I decided on the Z.
My thought was, if I was spending the money to sell my BMW for a sports car, I wanted the full sports car effect. I wanted the lighter, more power, susp, more sporty ect.

Well the only noticeable difference besides the styling and weight is that the G is way cooler than the Z. The Z is for the not so cool people, you know dorks. The G on the other hand is for cooler people. Take me for example, I am super dope and fresh at the same time. I wear sweet clothes and sport the coolest kicks. I cut my hair regularly and wear AXE body spray (for the hunnies). My brother owns a Z and he is way less fresher than me. So if you want to be fly-fresh-silly-dope you will buy a G. Word to your *****!
