Default Raspy sound now with headers.

I got my headers put in a few weeks ago and now my exhaust sounds raspy. My mods include Crawford Plenum,Kinetix HF Cats, and a custom Y-pipe w/ dual 18" resonators. I thought the fitment on the custom Y-pipe was the cause of the rasp (seeing as how I was told there were minor leaks where the flanges meet) so i changed to the stock Y-pipe. Now the rasp is sickning like a Honda. At this point I don't know if gettin the Injen SES would help eliminate the rasp or just make it more pronounced.
Any suggestions? Any temp solutions until I order the SES?
Thanks a lot

Check the gaskets. Thats what the cars tend to sound like when gaskets go bad before the mufflers.

how should i check them? When i took them off, it's just 4 pieces of metal stuck together kind of like turning pages on a book.

Put the car up on a lift and let the thing cool 100 percent. Start the car and rev the engine and throw some water (some say soapy water so that it sticks a bit) where you think the leak is and look for bubbles from leaks. It is a simple and cheap way to pinpoint leak problems from my experience. Good Luck

i had the same problem with the random tech cats. as soon as i switched them out it went away. if its not an exhaust leak then its the cats.

well i put the the custom y-pipe i had back on and the rasp sound went away...but...it still sounds like there might be a small exhaust leak somewhere (sounds like air coming out the middle of the car)...I'm hoping when I get the injen exhaust, the air sound and rasp sound will no longer be present. Someone here has the same mods as me includin the same headers and h/f cats with the injen straight tip and he says he has no rasp at all.
Thanks guys for the replys.

The kinteix cats sometimes tend to sound raspy. that's one thing that quite a few people have complained about.
We have not had any trouble with the crawfords.
But check the gaskets, even if you think that everything is tightened, it still may be leaking someplace. Have a muffler shop check.
it can also be the gaskets between the headers and the cats, that's more of a trouble point than anything.

This topic was beat to death a year or so ago and their was a solution. Raspiness is coming from your exhaust setup due to a more free flowing exhaust which causes a harmonic pulse AKA rasp. It has nothing to do with gaskets or anything like that so long as everything is tightened down. SOLUTION: resonators or test pipes with resonators = NO MORE RASP

Well, Obviously resonators aren't the solution here...seeing as how it has DUAL 18" resonators right after the cats. When my car was on the lift at street image they said everything was tightened down (they double checked) and said there were slight leaks where the Y-pipe connected to the cats. Either way, I hope the solution to this problem is to run the injen SES exhaust w/ resonators in it. If the problem persists, then I will add more resonators right after the 02 sensor.
Thanks everyone

I had a similar problem with my headers and test pipes. With all stock exhaust and resonated test pipes, I had a great sounding car and no rasp, drone, etc. The minute I installed the headers, the raspiness started. Like mentioned above, it sounded like a crappy Honda fart can. What causes this? Again, this was all happening with a stock cat-back exhaust.

I have Xerd long tube headers with no cats and Injen SES exhaust and the rasp is still there.
ANT- I'm surprised that you still have the rasp if you say that you tried resonators. The majority of people that tried what I said with the resonators had solved the rasp issue.

My rasp started when I installed Crawfordz Cats on a existing DC Header and Stillen Exhaust setup. It only happen at WOT tho.

The y-pipe cost me $80. Does the Stillen system come with resonators in it? I'm afraid that when I get the Injen system, I'm going to have to add 2 more resonators right after the 02 sensor as well.

Are we talking about a resonance type of sound?

I get some kind of annoying sound around mid RPM at full throttle.

Mine started when I added my DC headers to Kinetix cats and NFC Motorsports Y pipe.

Well mine sounds like it's 1. leaking a tad somewhere (I hear a slight hissing sound when I step on the gas...It's not the injen CAI, bc I know the sound of that) and 2. It has a slight metallic sound to it at WOT (not necessarily the honda rasp...but to a much lesser degree.) My fear is that I'm going to spend almost $900 on the Injen SES only to have the metallic sound more present...or even worse...a RASPY honda sound.
