Injen replacement filter options
Go to PEPBOYS...you can pick up a conical cotton gauge/wire mesh filter in many colors with crome accents. Their cone also includes the small cone in the cap just like JWT's. It has a 3" I.D. and cost about $25. I bought one when building my custom intake and have over 7xxx on it. No problemos
It's made in CHINA like the rest of them... You can use the K&N re-charge kit on it, $12.

To answer your question between the two. JWT is a well built intake system that uses a proprietary conical filter. It may be better than PepBoys filter... I don't know? Is it worth $110, yes. When it comes time to buy a replacement filter though, you will have to buy JWT's at $65. It's their design and they are going to make sure you buy their filter. Kinda like Gillette does

If and only if you are a DIY, would I recommend builing a custom one-off intake. I design products for a living, so it wasn't that big of a deal. IMO, the ACR filter I bought from PepBoys was well built, direct from CHINA, like the rest of them. It's fine cotton gauge, wire mesh for strength, metal ring at top and bottom, along with soft rubber boot to attach it to the tube. It looks exactly the same as everything else I've seen on the net for much more. It's not a complex product... I recently descovered an adapter ($10) at one of the PepBoys that alows for a direct bolt on to the MAF. It's offered by the same company that makes the filters. I wish I would have seen this damn little adapter before I took a trip to HomeDepot!! O'well, the projects been over for a while and I'm just enjoying it

I'm 100% sure it lets more air in, but does it let more dirt pass as a bi-product? I have faith in K&N filters as they have been around with huge amounts of resource and probably research. I'm just curious about the research that JWT filters have gone through. Of course it makes more hp with more air passing, but is there any negative consequences?

slowturtle,
The JWT filter is great, a lot of people like it
It will SUCK in more than twice as much clean air, compared to stock! You will feel the difference in your seat.
The only difference between my intake and JWT's is my setup is completely sealed from the engine bay and I have a different inlet or larger cowl feeding the box/container.
IMO, a custom setup is not worth the trouble when you can by JWT's for $110 and put it on in 20 minutes. I just did it to give myself an edge and because I like to tinker with stuff
You can see a pic of it in my sig, with link...
