Default pop charger and exhaust sound?

I have heard that a pop charger can or does?? make a stock exhaust sound like it's an afternarket pipe due to the increase in air flow?

Does the pop charger make the stock exhaust sound like an aftermarket exhuast or altered to some degree? I heard it makes it sound deeper in addition the the vaccum/sucking sound.

I was inside the car while I was driving, obviously, so I dont know what the exhaust sounds like, but I can tell you from the inside the whole engine/exhaust sounds a hell of a lot louder.

Just put mine in yesterday and noticed a deeper tone after 3500 rpms. I didn't get the whistle sound and can only here the suction if my hood is open and windows down (obviously not driving) maybe its a colorado thing ( thin air)

My exhaust sounds about the same, I can hear the filter suck at 4000 rpm to redline. Sounds good, and gives the illusion that the car is faster. Good mod for the money.

I have never seen so much interest in “sound” as I have in the forum. Any mod which moves more air through the exhaust will increase the exhaust noise level.

Default Pop Charger?

Is there any wheel HP to be gained with this mod on MY car? Maybe just a little... or maybe better milage? See sig for mods already done. Exhaust already sounds very good so I'm not interested in illusion of power or louder exhaust. Racers at Summit Point said don't go CAI route for street, as they suck water and get dirty real quick due to the location. I also heard the stock air box flowed very well. That's why I haven't done anything with the intake yet. But I'm starting to get cabin fever and ready to something for my car. Where can one get the JWT pop charger anyway? Thanks!

ahwai519: Thanks! Good source. I'll probably order one there.

davidv: I was told that the CAI positioned below the bumper sucks water, not the pop-charger.

So everybody is happy with the JWT pop charger? Best bang for the buck?

Thanks!

CAI costs around $250-350 new. Pop charger does the same thing but costs $150 less. Neither gives you significant hp gain but definitely a deeper, solid exhaust note from the pop charger.

I like the pc better because of its cost and you can install it yourself in an hour or two in a relaxed pace.

BTW, there is a video out there to show you step by step installation.

Default Avalon Racing site

The site just given to me states: NissanPerformanceMag: "Not wanting to mess around we put the car on the dyno immediately and recorded the biggest gains we.ve seen on any 350Z yet: 6.5 hp at the wheels! The driving difference was noticeable, springing a welcomed quickness to redline. To say we were amazed is an understatement."

Is this not true?

I am not disputing the claim as I am no expert. I can definitely feel the pull at 4000 or above rpm. However, whether it makes the car faster or not, I really don't know.

My theory is that when you have a stock z with 230-240 rwhp, another 6.5 gain (if true) will not be noticeable anyways....

My Z is not quite stock. I dynoed at 250 WHP last year. Since then I've added the Hi-Flow cats. Intake is next. Every little bit helps.
