Default apexi active tail system

This is a pretty cool concept. It is a removable silencer that fits in the back of a typical N1 muffler. The ATS has a spring loaded valve that keeps shut at low flow/small throttle openings. Hit it hard, and the valve is forced open by the exhaust gas, and you get full unobstructed flow. Has any one tried one of these?

Wait, excuse me for being dense but if the exhaust gas has to push and keep the valve open, how is that unobstructed flow?

Good point. As I understand it, there is a calibrated amount of spring pressure that keeps the valve from fully opening except at wide open thottle. If the engine is running, the valve must be partially open. So perhaps it is not truly unobstructed flow. Does any exhaust really provide unobstucted flow?

I would guess it depends on the design, if the spring takes a bit of force to open but the if it takes very little to keep it there (it gets locked in some how) then it might be ok.

VW does this concept better using engine vacuum, WOT = Open Valve.

Whatever this is http://www.hypersprite.com/auto/pict...b/DSC03869.jpg

I was talking to him about how cool his exhaust sounded and he said all he did was remove the vacuum exhaust valve. That normally it only sounded like this when you got on it but by removing it, it loud all the time.
