Default Please help intake plenum sounds like I have marbles in it at idle

Ok I beat on my car tonight and it was running fine. I drove it home and put it in park, and it started making a metal to metal sound from my intake plenum. It only happens at idle. When I took off the vaccum hose it really goes crazy; but when I gave it gas it went away. When the idle got back down it started making that clanking sound again.

Please help me

stock plenum? spacer? aftermarket plenum? stock intake?

did you open up the plenum and take a look inside?

Its a crawford plenum and I had my lower ones honed out. Also the day before i put two aramid gaskets between the lower intake and the intake runner. Do you think a screw came undone?

Thanks Glen

In all honesty since it's not a stock plenum, you can't really take it into a dealer. Open it up and pray you find something loose that can be tightened.

You're 100% sure it's coming from the plenum right?

same thing happened to me after i got my utec, i went for a drive and had some wot runs, then on idle it made that sound, the rev's would go down and then back up almost stalling.

i took it back to my tuner that very day and he said it was due to the idle codes he put in the utec being incorrect thus it was almost stalling, the sound is your clutch knocking when it almost stalls.

you need to check your idle and why its almost stalling

Did you use loctite on the 6 internal lower manifold to lower plenum bolts?
On that note, with 2 gaskets, did you retain the stock bolts or go with 1/4 longer ones?

I just brought it to a mechanic. The noise does not occur when driving; only at idle. It really goes crazy when I pull the vaccum hose off it sounds like a quarter bouncing on top of the intake. I did tighten the screws inside the intake but maybe they loosened after beating on the car. The mechanic put a stethascope up to the intake and said it was coming from inside. It almost sounds as if the oil pressure goes down when its idleing and their is not anofe oil in the valve cover, because when i give it gas the noise goes away. Its so dam weird I cant figure it out that why I brought it to a mechanic. I did not have time to pull off the intakes my mechanic is checking that out. The car always almost stalls at idle because of my JWT cams, but it doesnt shut off because of my stall convertor.

Also with the two gaskets I did stay with the factory ones and did not go with a 1/4 longer ones. Can that be the problem?

Thanks for the help Glen

When I put the ssv on I had a similar problem, I could only hear it at Idle. I looked at the manifold and the strut bar was rubbing. I could barely put a credit card underneath it. So I raised it about half an inch and the noise dissapeared.
