Take that intake off and put the stock air boxes back in.

Buy a new intake knowing that you'll get a good brand name intake and not a knock off from ebay for peace of mind or just by a Bypass valve.....It virtually eliminates the unlikely chance of water ingestion should the filter element become wet from deep puddles, rain, hail, sleet or snow-or any other scenario in which the filter element could encounter or become submerged in water. Should a drop in pressure occur within the pipe due to filter submersion, the valve shuts down induction at the filter and routes incoming air through its external orifices, eliminating any chance of water ingestion.

Are you concerned about a wet intake filter? Just get an intake with the filter inside the engine bay.

JWT Pop Charger goes right where the stock air box used to be... I don't think any of the intakes for the Z really give anything amazing in terms of gains. I do like the sound they make however.

I used a K&N drop-in for 3 years, now ~6 months with Stillen (K&N filter, JWT Venturi ring) "Popcharger" intake, it does have small but measurable gains on a dynopack hub dyno.

I like the fact it retained my V35's stock CAI, which IMHO is pretty effective stock, using additional piping from hood centerline over to the airbox - all external air. The shield reused part of the OEM intake (the "Power Duct!" - makes you more handsome, blah, blah, blah).

IMHO this is a good compromise for an NA motor with typical bolt-on mods, and not worse than stock for water issues - the stock airbox also has a bottom drain in case it does collect some water.

I also like the sound

That's what the Stillen package does exactly - still get the cone, venturi ring, but it's in the OEM box with a new cover, so you don't pull as much warm air. JWT's shield is not quite as nice, but still pretty good.

Even cold air intakes you would have to almost drive into a lake to get hydrolock imo. If you dont live in Seattle you should be fine.

+1^ I wouldn't even think about running an intake unshielded outside the OEM airbox area (i.e. down in the bumper/fender areas w/o a Bypass Valve, NO WAY.

Have you ever seen it rain in places like Phoenix or even SoCal? I've lived in Seattle and Phoenix, and if you're out and t-storms come through, you can have 6 inches of water standing on the road in no time. Bypass valve...
