I decided to take the stock intake apart for closer examination. Found a velocity stack ring behind the air filter, but whats with all the ridges and stuff on the plastic? i figured it would hinder air flow so i got some aluminum tape and started taping. Basicly i figured if I could turn that whole area behind the filter into one big funnel to improve on the velocity stack. So far results are inconclusive as to if this mod works at all, we are getting humid climate here and Im 1400ft above see level, today at 64 degrees and 35% humidity I could not get better than 15sec in 1/4 and 6.45 0 to 60 on Gtech....thats slow I know

Automobile engineers may see a purpose in those ridges/designs inside the air
intake. They really make no sense to me, but, then again, whattooIknow?!!!

i guess the purpose of the ridges is to strenghten the overall structure of the air box.
i drilled about a dozen half inch holes on the bottom towards the head light housing to get more air.

Well I just connected the velocity ring with the rest of the air box and smoothed out all the ridges with metal tape over them, so i decrease the volume capacity probably but air is going in in a much smoother cone shape into the stack.
So far Im not certain about the results, Gtech shows no improvement yet.

 

You won't notice any "improvements", if at all, with a G35 sedan and gtech.

Spending time modding a stock airbox for an 03 g35 sedan without realizing they don't make a difference is retarded. The air intake is still restricted to the diameter of the stack. Thinking a smooth airbox will help is like thinking a turbonator's "air spiraling" design works.

Maybe you think that G35 has a different intake? its the same for your info as 350z
and also air flow is not just about the diameter, you go to bog and will loose velocity

If you are using old Gtech your 1/4 might be a little faster but its probably also due to not mounting it correctly.
I have done many tests on various cars with Gtechs for over 4 years; old gtech is dead on accurate for 0-60 and pretty close on 1/4mi
i ran at the track 15.00 flat on my 325is and g tech was at 14.90
but new one (ss or rr) are even more accurate on 0-60 and 1/4 mi as well

im using the SS model now
