I think the drop in's were considered good (actually the air boxes) on the HR motors, 07+. I had a drop in in my 05 and didn't really notice an improvement. When I switched to a open element style it felt snappier. For the 03-06 and think the JWT popcharger is the standard. Good performance and cost are hard to dispute.

dry flow, no oil. Allot better flow then stock. k&n as it came from the store gave the inside my intake tiny little oil splatters that am sure got in the MAF

Ohh... a dry filter would scare me too much to use.

Agree. There is no best. I like a washable filter. Had a K&N washable filter for 73,000 miles. Cleaned it about 15 times. Good value.

Default What I did...

I'm relatively ignorant when it comes to cars in general and a lot of more informed folks than I come down on either side of the oiled/dry debate. So, I figure you really can't go wrong either way. I had oiled cone filters on my RX-7, and never had a problem. I've had a K&N intake on my '02 Explorer for a couple of years without any problem.

Still, I don't think that an oiled filter is going to filter as well as a good quality dry paper filter. Likewise, a paper filter won't tend to flow as well as a cotton, oiled filter. In general, if you increase flow you are going to decrease filtration.

I just got a K&N panel filter for the Z. The plan is to simply drop it in for Auto-X events. It is simple and easy to do may give me a fractional improvement in HP. I'll keep it in the same box I keep my magnetic numbers and helmet. It is also relatively cheap. For DD, I'm sticking with paper filters.
