Default Cracked ART Pipes? Art Pipe Making Noise

Update: Hey guys just took my car to a local muffler shop and they removed it for me. Turns out it was my stock y pipe making the ringing noise. The ART pipe was hitting the heatshield so i thought it was the art pipe that was causing the weird noise. I've decided to buy an aftermarket y pipe to get rid of toe POS OEM y pipe but have already removed the heat shield so it's not making the rattling noise anymore

Good to know it was not an expensive to fix problem

Interesting. Unfortunately I have no clue what could be causing the problem, but I am interested in seeing what Tony has to say about this.

Have you removed them from the car and inspected them? I had cracked mine, and had them welded up. I didnt have that rattle tho...

My car is pretty low, and I bottomed out.
No, that's be way too much pain to do... I've never bottomed out, scuffed or anything.

What's weirder is that when i put my palm against the helmoltz resonator to try to hold it still while i bang it, it eliminates the sound. When i let go, the rattle/ring comes back. If something was loose inside, then the rattle/ring would persist regardless of whether i had my palm on it or not.

Take it off and shake it to see if the material in the resonator is moving.

Some exhaust are known to crack test pipes such as the Nismo exhaust Y pipe.

Although this is true, the OP does state that the welds on the ART pipe were all checked and showed no cracks. I am not refuting the stock exhaust may of had some thing to do with the problem, rather I am just wondering if the problem could simply be ART pipe related.

The resonator has come loose inside. Pull the test pipe and check it.

Afaik, the helmholtz resonator is hollow. There's nothing inside like regular resonators. I'm not sure what could be rattling... Maybe a piece of steel wool from the non-foulers

I started banging on the art pipe lightly with my hand to find out where it was making noise from and it seems like it's making noise from the helmoltz resonator

It seems like something inside the resonator is loose ... I have a video if you guys watch, i bang it in several places to find out where the problem was coming from. Also, i checked the welds and the pipe. Nothing is cracked, so it's coming from the inside. It's not loose bolt from the y pipe either, that's already tight.. I tired banging the resonator on the passenger side and it was fine - made no noise. Does anyone know exactly what's causing the sound?

Here's the vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzgT1KF60NM
The other day when I was swapping back to cats for emissions I noticed that my ART pipes sound like they have sand in the resonator. I didn't think too much about it, but I guess I should have...

The problem started when i had the Motordyne dual exhaust with the XYZ on the car, it still persisted after i went back to stock (which i currently run if that's what you meant). The ring/rattle is just more pronounced when i have a quiet (stock) exhaust.

There is a metal screen inside the helmholtz resonator. It may have come lose. Contact us for warranty details. (661) 298-7555
