Well I broke down today and pulled the trigger on buying a Fujitsubo Legalis R. I got a great deal on eBay and I couldn't pass it up since these exhausts are being liquidating and I had to get my hands on one of the best systems ever made for the Z. Scored it for $640.00 w/ free shipping.

completely forgot about this thread, lol. sorry to hear about not being able to score quite the same deal, but 640 is still well worth it. i assume you have to have received the exhaust at this point and installed it, how are you liking it?

Install could have went better after finding out a hanger was bent and I had to heat it up and do some slight adjustments to get the muffler to hang even but it was an easy fix, just glad I had help as the muffler section is awkward to hold up by yourself.
As far as sound I was not impressed at first when it sounded as though my stock exhaust was louder. After about a month of driving I have noticed a significant increase in sound. I don't know if there is such thing as a break in period but it sounds amazing. No drone, really throaty at low rpm and very aggressive at mid-high rpm. You defiantly get noticed if you want and it's still tame enough during normal driving to not get police attention.

That's good to know.
Yes exhaust do two things after some mileage, and it's dependent on the exhaust/silencer(resonator, muffler) types as to how long and how much.
Firstly, they coke up with use, this will change the note/sound/volume some.
Secondly, any wadding/sound deadening material also gets coked and de-fluffed and bedded in etc.

volume level has definitely increased with mine, as well. my car is stock with the exception of the fuji catback and a nismo intake, and ive noticed that i'm getting a significant amount of soot. it's not blowing out the tailpipes onto the bumper or anything, but it's definitely there.
i also might be getting the (well-known) light spark knock, so i wonder if those issues are connected. sounds like it's coming from under the car rather from in the motor, but i'm not sure. hopefully something is just rattling.

I think I made a good choice buying the Fuji. I mean it's among the best systems made for the Z and the sound is such a smooth and clean tone. Some friends of mine even said it sounds exotic at higher rpm.
On the bad side of things I think I have a cat going bad and I am afraid by installing test pipes (resonated) I will kill the sound of the fuji.

is the 350z stock tune fairly rich? i'd always thought they were supposed to be on the leaner side from the factory, which would have explained the occasional knock i get when the engine is under load at low rpm, but maybe not.

enough that it's totally coated the insides of both tips and can be found on the exterior/bottom portion of them, as well. much more than my old sti, which was tuned to run rich/safe.
