Chrome Silver Performance. The general manager of my dealership handled my sale. He has a Z too. He intends to go to a synthetic oil at his first change,2500-3000 mi., since the rings may not seat otherwise. The owners manual suggests a mineral-based oil. Any factory warranty considerations? Any thoughts out there?

 

Personally, I'm going to stick with regular oil until approximately 10,000 miles, then I'm switching to synthetic permanently.

 

When people describe their cars they refer to tint...ie. 20%, 30%etc. I assume this is for the windows. Correct? Thanks

 

Ummm....what else is there to tint?

I'm going with Redline at around 4-5K miles. I'm also going with their tranny fluid as well. In another thread, someone mentioned using Redline Light Weight Shock Proof for their tranny since it worked so well in their racing application. I had planned on using the Redline MT-90 in mine until I heard this. I then e-mailed Redline and they were concerned about using the Shockproof as it may be a potential problem with the warranty since it is mainly for racing. I'm not sure about that but I think I'll stick with the MT-90.

 

You've got a manual, right Bonz? Is that tranny fluid going to make that much of a difference? I'm also assuming it's not sealed like I heard the automatic tranny is?

 

Why not go with synthetic at the first oil change at 1200 miles? I mean you can put synthetic in when you get the car at 0 miles or whatever. Check out Mobil 1's website. One of the myths about synthetic is that it is not good to put synthetic oil in a brand new car, but it doesn't matter. I believe that it will only help you not hurt you in any way.

 

...that means Valvoline Synthetic 5W-30 for the engine and a blend of MTL and MT-90 for the gearbox. Why the blend? Nissan's specs for the 3 1/2 quart (gearbox capacity) tranny oil is RIGHT BETWEEN MTL and MT-90's viscosity recommendations. By blending the two (this is Redline's recommendation), you get the appropriate viscosity.

 

I just had a new transmission put into my 92 Stealth and that is exactly what the guys on the Stealth boards recommended so that's what I did (50:50 mix of MTL and MT-90). Redline recommended just the MT-90.

I would recommend waiting 1500 to 2000 miles for the rings to seat and the high initial wear to occur.


I don't have a listing yet for the New 350Z, I would expect the MT-90 would be suitable for the transmission, based on the past call outs.


In the Stealth transaxle I would recommend a blend of MTL and MT-90

 

My call to Redline's tech line resulted in the advise to mix the MTL and MT-90. It does make some sense: Redline does not make a 75-85 GL-4 weight gearbox oil and by mixing the two you can come up with the approximate weight.

I'd guess that we are dealing with two different individuals in the Redline tech area- each with differing opinions...
