Default Worn Steering Wheel Leather

Has anyone had a problem with their steering wheel wearing out ?
The leather on mine has started to come off in one spot at 9 o'clock. It has become sticky because there is a layer of leather missing. I'll have to go to the dealer to have it changed but I hope they don't break something while fixing it...

I have an 03 Touring with just over 7K miles and mine is wearing at the 12 oclock position, thats where I have mine hand when I drive.

Does the dealership cover this under warranty? They should ONLY 7K MILES and already visable wear, WTF?!

They should cover, it's a failure. I won't be going to the dealer for a couple of months. I'll find out for sure this fall.

I have the same problem...at 12o'clock, and my shifter. I also have an appointment with Nissan tomorrow afternoon, so we'll see if they cover it.

I had the same problem - Nissan refused to cover it. Said it is wear and tear, blah blah blah. I tried arguing but it got me nowhere. Ended up buying an oem steering wheel w/ 200 miles on ebay for $20 bucks to replace mine.

Yeah, I think they should replace it. A guy I know was working for Lincoln when the the LS's first came out and they had the exact same problem. So many people came in with problems that they switched over the the woodgrain on the steering wheel. He said most places will cover something like that, because it isn't normal. I guess I"ll see tomorrow!

Depending on the dealer, they should replace it. When you get rejected try a different dealer. I now drive 40 minutes out of my way to a different dealer because they do the right thing. I NEVER go to the dealer where I bought my Z because they told me nothing was wrong with my tranny. Second opinion at another dealer had me a new tranny with 4 days. Wear and tear? It should take 10 years for that to happen. I had the leather seat bolsters on my burnt orange seats wear after a couple of years and they reupolstered my seats under warranty. Check your seat bolsters too if you have leather!!

Yep, I agree but you need to be forcefull sometimes. I am confident that the dealer will agree to replace it but I was just curious to see if it was a common problem.
