Question High Pitch Noise At 80??

Just A question, I have about 2000 miles on my Z and above 80 miles an hour I experience a wine noise. Somthing similar to what you might hear if your CV joints or rear end where going out.. Anyone else experiencing this or somthing similar? I've inquired with the dealer and they have expressed that it is nothing to worry about.

I have 4000 miles on my and just started to notice a similar noise around 80mph, it's almost like a whistle noise. If you get off the gas, it stops, if you press the gas again it comes back. It's not very loud, but it's notisable if the radio is a lower level. Could this be the same problem? I'll be interested to know if other have heard this and if it is indeed normal.

Eduardo.

It doesn't have to be at 80, you can hear that whistling noise every time you step on the gas a little bit(with no radio). It really bothers me since I don't really listen to my shitty bose and have to listen to this whiny noise. I didn't notice this noise until approx. 2000 miles

Does this indicate a faulty fuel pump or is it normal? Should I be concerned enough to take it to the dealer?

Default High Pitched Noise

I heard this sound for the first time at ~1200 miles. Somewhere around 80 MPH if you are on the gas, you hear a sound similar to whine of in a seat on comercial jet airliner. Let off the gas, and the sound goes away. Should I contact the dealer?

its the fuel pump, I used to hear it over the radio in my truck that had a 5.9 liter engine, it needed lots of fuel.

jeez, I think Im gonna leave this section now. Ive never read so many people complain about the stupidest stuff. I know youll all jump on me for calling all this stupid, but it is. the only problems Ive seen worth worrying about is tire issues, maybe some alignment problems and the rest were restricted to maybe one or 2 cars.

stop worrying! all of your cars are fine! man, try a mercedes some time, its in the shop once a month, for real problems, like blown AC, or bad tranny. the Z is hardly a problematic car, everyones just getting so worried about it. like automotive hypocondriacs. worry about it once something actually goes wrong.

this is normal. this is a high-performance car and needs a large fuel pump. the sound is damped in higher-end cars.

actually, if you have ever been in a car with an aftermarket turbo or S/C, the pump is usually upgraded and sounds 10X louder than this.

and by the way ares, i don't think this is a stupid question. he was simply asking if this was normal operation.

Skipp,

If you ask the clerk at the liquor store to put the bottles into those little individual paper bags, that "wine" noise should go away.

Smile gear whine

I had a whine at 80mph to 92mph when the car was under a load. this was fixed by the dealer by replacing the rear diff. no problems now

Default Same noise on mine. It is from the tranny.

I have the same noise and symptoms you are mentioning. I noticed (especially when car is cold) that it is very noticeable at 2K rpm and up. If the clutch is pushed in, there is NO noise at all. The minute the clutch is let out, whether in gear or not, I get an incredible whining sound. During normal driving, it sounds like there is a supercharger attached!

The car is currently in the shop awaiting approval for a new transmission at the suggestion of the technician.

Perhaps a vacuum leak? It follows the symptoms.

Default Thanks for all your comments and concerns

For all of you who though that my post was of little concern, i have news. The dealer informed me that one of my CV joints was defective from the factory. Thus causing the wine/rumble noise. if you have this same noise i would recomend getting the car into the dealer asap and get it fixed.
Thanks,
Skipp
