I had the alignment realigned and front tires replaced due to feathering at 6,700 miles and at 12,500 miles. At 12,500 miles the new TSB alignment (Zero Toe Out) that came out 4/04 was performed too. At 16,500 miles my tires are starting to roar again. It is not that bad yet, but it will return just as it has two other times.
First, I have a correction to make. The 2005's come with 18' wheels and tires in the track and performance models, all other models come with 17' tires and wheels in stick or automatic with the 18' optional.

Second, cpoe52 what air pressure are you running in your tires? thanks

It's a fun car except for dealing with the delay and worry over the tire eating issue. I still do not believe that Nissan will let this tire issue kill the new 350Z.

Gary: I understand that the BBB decision is non-binding and I encourage you to pursue it in court unless Nissan can assure you that the new design will be retrofitted to solve the problem. The recent alignment TSB doesn't seem to be working for me. I am a little over 3,000 on the new tires and they appear to be feathering again. The noise has not started again but I've noticed the uneven wear, as before.
I'm in Simpsonville (a little south of Greenville) in the upstate. Even if there is a supposed fix for 2005, its going to take 6 months plus to prove out. Given the difficulty folks are having with 03 and 04 models, I'm can't drop $30K+ on a promise.

No Z for me.

Good call in my opinion. Go get yourself a used Corvette or a Porsche, I think you'll be much happier. You know you can get a nice 993 for a reasonable price now. The Z is ok overall, but you're taking a big risk with it.

i think there's basically one guy on zcar.com spreading this rumor. he's pretty adamant about it, but he refuses to explain how he got his information or how he gets any of his information, so it's kinda fishy. for someone like me who wants to make excuses to buy a z, it's messing with my head though.... the difficulty with something like this is that, like dsleach said, it would take so long to verify the fix really works that even if nissan announced a fix today we'd still be buying the car on faith.

Why can't some of the moderators set up a poll on this site so we can have some hard numbers should a class-action lawsuit become necessary? I would myself, but i'm not very computer savy. Poll should include at least: year, model, wheelsize, vin #,# of miles when problems began, # miles when alignment "fix" performed, # miles since "fix", did fix correct problem? That's all i can think of right now. We should do this!!!

The rear tires are almost worn out right now with not that much hard driving. The front tires have around 6000 miles on them after being replaced by Nissan. I keep 40 psi in my tires vice the 35 recommened by Nissan. I also get a four wheel alignment every three months. At this point in time there is no abnormal wear on the front tires. This is not speculation or rumor it is FACT as it applies to my car. Your car could be different. I am curious if anybody has done a study on the automatic versus manual transmission cars. There was a difference in wheel size but now as we speak all 350Z's come Standard with 17' wheels and tires. Something else for you to think about.
Hi, yes, the PS's have been very good for me. They are a little harder compound than the 040's but they do stick very well, esp. in the rear compared to the 040's. I have 18" so its hard to make a really clean comparison with the lower sidewall height, and a wider rear tire than my Base Z's 17" stock tires.

Sorry, not very conclusive that they would be great for you too, but at a minimum the 040 cost for just replacements is high given the cost of the tire. Michelin's aren't cheap either, but given the miles you got out of the 040's I'm guessing you'd appreciate the better ride and dry road traction. They're not bad in the wet either, just keep them FAR away from a snowflake

SteveZ....."guessing you'd appreciate the better ride and dry road traction"

I have the Mich Pilot Sport A/S...the tires seem as sticky as the 040s, but Id have to disagree with the ride quality... the tires have a "harder" feel going over bumps... not bad but noticeable... someone elsewhere on a forum also made a distinction with Pilot Sports and Pilot Sports A/S, I havnt researched this myself, so I would check the differences when choosing tires. My 040s cupped at 3500 and dealer replaced with PS A/S. I now have over 35k onthe new tires with no cupping. I have 17" wheels.

i agree, the moderators on this site are control freaks. can't make polls in the general forum AT ALL. and can't sticky anything there that might make the z look bad. i've been thinking about putting a poll up. might work on it later this week. i'll update if i do.

04s and 04.5s still have feathering. 05s are rumored to have a true fix.

Default Lemon Law on Carfax

How long to you think it will take for the LL to show up on a Carfax report?

I'm more or less just wondering the fate of my Brickyard and to make sure it has been reported correctly - so some poor fool doesn't have to go though what I did.

Thanks.

O yee of little faith! You're missing it. I'm only suggesting that you don't do anything rash that may preclude you from getting the Z. Like possibly buying a corvette at twice the cost (with automatic of course)... if your situation is anything like mine, such a purchase may take some time to recover from.

I've had a 350Z nearly two years, driven nearly 50,000 miles, five sets of tires (at no additional cost to me-so far) Still getting assurances that the problem will be corrected. Maybe not, but in the meanwhile, Enjoy the Ride!

I'm also in the G'viile area. If you're serious about the Z, talk to Richard Kay at Upstate Nissan

navybulldog68:

My tire pressures are check religiously and are always kept at 35 psi (as the manufacture suggests).

Are you trying to tell me they actually make Corvettes with automatic transmissions? Surely you jest. I'd never consider such a thing.

Exclamation My Z just failed safety inspection for my front tires!

I just had to get my Z inspected (Mass inspection) and it failed for safety for the two front tires for being bald / choppy. Isn't this a safety issue that should have a recall? I am thinking I should report this to someone but not sure who can make a difference. I think this is pretty serious, bald tires on a sports car just doesn't mix.....

i don't think feathering is a safety issue, but that doesn't mean nissan isn't working on a fix. just means it will be a tsb instead of a recall.

Hey, I just found this web site and I am amazed at all the problems here. My 03 350Z has been making very loud noises from the front tires when I slow down to stop, it sounds like a moster truck! Is this what you guys are talking about? My car has 20,000 KM's on it, the dealer said they will replace the front 2 tires, and claim the original tires have a flat spot from when they were transported by truck? So thats why they are so loud.
Is this BS or what!
Also does anyone else have excess wear on your leather seats?
