Thumbs up Traded in my 2003 350Z FINALLY!

I did it! I went in and traded my 2003 (built in 11/02) Z for a 2004 white touring roadster with the navy blue top. Boy is it ever hot. LET'S KEEP OUR FINGERS CROSSED THAT I DON'T HAVE THE FEATHERING AGAIN!

The grease streaks are gone.

And the ride is smoother.

What kind of trade in did you get.

Talking Trade in

I paid 29 k for it originally, employee discount from the co-signer. I had 30k miles on it and got 25K for it. Got the roadster on employee discount too. Not a bad deal in my opinion.

30,000 miles for $4,000

You made out like a bandit.. Tires alone must have cost $2,000

Cheers Amy -

If you own a 2003 350Z then Nissan NA will automatically send it to you.

Wow. Still going strong. Will this thread ever die?

I remember reading this thread when there was only 25 pages of replies and thought, "surely nissan will have this issue resolved before it reaches 50 pages." Heh, shows what I knew!

oh well... Good luck with the tires everyone. :-/

I had my 03 tires replaced for feathering on the insides 4.5 months ago, but I now have feathering on the inside and outside of the tires. Trust me the tire pressure has always been correct. Can anyone PLEASE offer adivse on how to resolve this? Dealer is saying the aligmnent is perfect since the feathering is on both sides. I have treated this car w/ the most respect and it shouldn't be happeing.

My advise on how to resolve it is to pursue a LL buyback, and then never buy another Nissan product. But if you want to actually fix the feathering problem, you'll probably need to change either your shocks or coil springs. If you want to spend some money and take a chance, I think the best option is to get some Koni's or a good set of coilovers. From what I've seen, that should get rid of the feathering problem, although you may still have other problems with tire wear since there is no camber/caster adjustement without buying more aftermarket parts.

It's a cycle that you can not escape. Feathering on the inside, then feathering on the outside - back and forth you go. It's best to file the LL warning shot and elect for a final repair - if you've had 3 already.

Granted it took SEVEN months for the LL process to run it's course. I miss the Z - but I don't miss the headaches.

I have about 4,500 miles on my Pilots. So far my impression is good of them overall. They are a harder composition tire and the ride is a little stiffer. They are not as "sticky" as the Bridgestones and have a little more road noise compared to a new unworn set of the Bridgestones.

hey! he was asking this weirdo...u weirdo! the tires are good, only ive noticed that they squeak more than the originals (during rough take off, garages, and sharp breaking), But they do have a much smoother and quieter ride. Also, i think the tread life on these things is around 400 something, thats pretty decent if u ask me. Even though they do squeak, I can say the handling in my opinion is better…but then again I was riding on bald tires for some time.

about the feathering, like i mentioned before, I never had it. I drive above average -im about to hit 20k miles, and i bought the car last march- so I should have been hit by the feathering issue long ago...I suppose it was because i had the alignment adjusted at the dealership -due to a curb incident-...so thats my take.

Pilot Sports or Pilot Sport A/S? One is much harder compound than the other, very different tread patterns, too.

The Bridgestone RE-040 is one of the softest and fastest wearing tires I've had on a car. Despite that, it had only average traction and hookup compared to the Michelins. It isn't anything like the S03, more like a typical OEM compromise. If I had 15k with or w/o feathering I would have been amazed.

Pilot Sports are one of the best driving all around tires I've had, but their wear is about right for sports car tires - nothing special. The Pilot Sport A/S is a hardas* tire not really suitable for the car - only as a 4 season tire, its wear is like in the 400 range vs 250 or less, the RE040's even lower, like 150.

I'm very happy with the Pilot Sports, very good, quiet yet great all around performance. My bud with an M3 has the same and has had really good luck with them. They don't address this issue, just beware that the A/S tires have been pimped out by Nissan over the last 1-1.5 years as a "solution" to the feathering, BS because they just take a lot longer to show any wear compared to RE040's.

Still cannot believe Nissan made such a poor tire choice and has stuck with it...alignment and other suspension issues aside, there are a lot of people out there who don't have anything nice to say about the RE040's - Audi TT's had them for awhile vs. Pilot Sports - go check out the feedback on places like tirerack.com.

Well, just got back from my arbitration hearing a little while ago. I won't know the official outcome for a couple weeks, but I think it went well. The Nissan rep was sidestepping the whole time, and kept changing his argument. First, it was my fault. Then, he claimed that there is nothing wrong with the car. Then he claimed that there is something wrong with the car, but it can be fixed. The arbitrator was great, conducted the whole thing very well. More to come when I get the final decision....
