And just the right (pass) side upper control A arm. ( Remember the American crowned roads issue. ) The left is the same original part for all three years.

I have a print out of the parts page for front suspension. Have your dealer print you out the page.

Cheers Amy -

So the lower control arms are different, and the upper A arm on the passenger side is different.

My last few experiences with my nissan service dept, they have been 0 help. They wouldn't print out anything for me in a thousand years. I dont waste my time with them anymore.

thanks for the info

I running Racing Hart wheels with Toyo Proxes T1-S 245/35ZR19 93Y on the front of
my '04 Touring.

Started hearing some roar when coming to a stop at around 5000 miles, and took it in for an alignment (I paid) Settings were:
Front Left.......................................Front Right
--------------------------------------------------------------------
.............Before.....After..........Before.......After
Camber....-1.2.......-1.2..............-0.5.......-0.5
Caster.......7.4........7.6................8.2........8.2
Toe..........0.13.......0.06..............0.13.......0.06
SAI...........6.2........4.7................4.3........4.3
Inc. Angle..4.0........3.5.................3.8.......3.8

...........................Before.....After
Cross Camber.........-0.7.......-0.7
Cross Caster..........-0.7.......-0.6
Cross SAI...............0.9.........0.4
Total Toe...............0.26.......0.10

At 6000 Miles, the roar is worse, so I go back to my dealer, Nissan of McKinney (Texas). They agree to replace the front tires today.
It sure is much quieter. We'll see how it goes. Some of my friends are saying I should take it to NTB a get an alignment done there.
The dealer DOES believe that the '04s don't have the problem.

*** BTW, the alignment printout says "18 inch wheels" but I have 19"... is that gonna be a problem? ***

Damn fonts.....

I would not go that route. I spoke to an NNA rep who stated that they only stiffended the sides of tires to compensate for the Z's flawed suspension. This will only delay the problem, not fix it. I'm not sure how long it would take for the problem to return, but I bet it will.
Call your local Lemon Law attorney and go after NNA to buy the car back. If NNA is forced with a choice of buying back all of the cars back or fixing them I think they will go the route of fixing. The other choice would bankrupt them and hopefully they will realize this and do the right thing.

I have an 03 auto enthusiast that had the front tires replaced and had an alignment at the dealership at 13K. Now Im at 23K and the roaring is coming back. Numerous members of the forum have suggested that once you bring your car in for tire replacement and alignment to then go to a good independent shop and have them realign it to factory specs. Will the independent shop know which specs to set it at or do you have to show them?

Does the roaring occur when you gradually come to a stop?

Genji,
If machine thinks you have 18", but you have 19", your toe readings could be in error if machine reports in inches. If machine reports in degrees, there is no error.

Default I gotta disagree...

What??? A NNA rep stated that they stiffened the sides of the tires to compensate for the Z Flawed suspension??? Would a NNA rep really say that?? I racked up 24K on my new RE040's without a hint of feathering. The irronic thing about it is my Z got totalled last month when a girl ran a stop sign and my buddy T boned her. The front end was plowed but it sure showed the nice even wear across both fronts....

I miss her already..

Just in case a lot of us are looking for Lemon Laws to help us out, all of them I am aware of have a 18 month, 18,000 mile, which ever comes first clause. this means that most of us will be 'SOL".

I am at 13,700 m. and 29 months. 3 sets of tires, 2 alignments and 1 front brake job. Can not wait until I turn 15,000 m. and the roar starts again. I will be real pissed off. Looking at a new car to buy in a few weeks. I hate being forced to buy another car because NNA will not fix their cars right.

Default Number of tire replacements

What is the official Nissan position on tire replacements? Is it in any document?
My dealer says that it's a one time thing but I see that some people have had
two or more replacements.

I'm on my second set with about 6500 miles over 14 months and I think the
roar is coming back but at my rate of usage I will probably go past the time
limit before the higher mileage and loud roar phase.

I have 66k miles on my Z. took it to Nissan about the tire feathering problem. They refused to fix the car due to 2 reasons. 1 the milage and 2. the fact I have what they call "aftermarket" tires. Personally I am sick of driving this car, it is well made but it does have its short commings. The tire problem and the tranny issues are too much to deal with especially when the dealership is rude and unhelpful. I had to replace my rotors a while back because one of the pistons got suck and wore down the rotor. Btw stock rotors run $400-460 a piece, its best to go with something aftermarket as it is cheaper.

So it clearly does occur with aftermarket tires... so much for that idea.

Also.. is it confirmed that new springs still can exhibit the feathering problem?

I was wondering if it would make a difference during the alignment if you were seated in the car. I know that when race cars are setup there is always someone the drivers weight in the car. It does effect the setup. Opinions? The car obviously has very close alignment specs. 200 lbs. might throw the alignment off.

Yes - it definitely makes a difference! Done correctly, alignment occurs with a person in the drivers seat.

I know mine was done w/o me or weight added......I know when I owned a BMW they put sand bags in the drivers seat. I think the Z is so close on alignment settings that just adding the driver can make a difference.

That was the first sign with mine, around 5k miles I think. I thought I had a brake problem, because coming to a stop was when the noise was loudest. Took it in and got first of alignments and suspension rod replacement TSB.

I just noticed that I now have significant tire feathering in my 03 enth. I'm at 15000 miles. I thought I would get through without the problem because I got past 10000 w/o any issues. Now I need to decide how to get out of this car. I don't want to deal with all the problems so many people here have. I'm either selling it privately or thinking about going after NNA for lemon law. I haven't taken it to the dealer yet but I'm positive they will do nothing. THey refused to even consider the noisy fan when the air conditioner is fan it on even though there is a TSB for the problem. Last Nissan I ever own, even though I abosolutely love everything else about the car.
