You got 15K miles out of the front tires right? That is good for a sports car. Now buy new front tires check the alignment and drive it for another 15K miles and then buy new front tires again. If you don't like to replace tires every 10-15K miles you need to buy a Toyota Camry or other normal family vehicle and then you can buy tires every 50-60K miles. I know the Z is a little harder on tires then some sports cars but I think part of the problem is unrealistic expectations by owners that are new to the sports car world. I'm not knocking you I just don't think you understand what owning a sports car is all about.

Did that solve the problem?

Its weird because I was talking to a guy today that has 60,000 miles on his 03, and I asked if he has had any feathering issues. He looked at me like I was crazy, he has never heard of it. I guess some get lucky and some dont. Im sure it has something to do with what factory or time they were produced.

Hope thats not my future with the Z. So far I dont have the "roaring/feathering" problem..... yet. Have had no help whatsoever from the service dept of the local nissan dealership concerning TSB's. I wouldn't even consider taking it to the dealer as i know it'd just be a waste of time.Ill probably be looking to get out of this car as well within a year from now or at the onset of the tire problem whichever comes first. Good luck on getting rid of it.

Hey life is tough and then you die. This is not a big deal compared to piston slap at GM and other problems you see in the automotive world. How many sets of tires can you buy for the front of your Z for the difference in price between the Porsche offer and your better looking and handling Z (Plus the Porsche tires don't last much longer then 10-15K miles) ???

I've gotten 2 free front sets of tires from Nissan and will have to buy 3 more before I will sell/trade my Z for another toy. What's that 12-15 hundred $$. Part of the cost of ownership. If you can afford to pay then don't pay Sorry about all of the BS quotes

It might not be a big deal to you, but clearly it is to many others.

we are suffering the same problems here in spain and all europe, but the problem here is that Nissan dont recognize it, so we dont have any TSB and we have to pay all the repairs made to the car, this is awesome.

I brought my 2004 (Dec. 2004 build date) Touring to the dealer for the 15K mile maintenance and was told my front tires have feathering. I did notice the car got louder at around 12K miles, but the tires look fine even to this day.

I am thinking of getting rid of the car, but what sports car doesn't have problems?

Have you looked at the inside tread blocks?

If you are getting feathering at 12k miles you do not have a severe case. Have the alignment set to the 04 TSB specs and next time buy a different tire. You should be ok.

I have an 03. Mine started at 7k miles and the RE040s never did wear evenly after the TSB alignment. I switched to the Eagle F1 GS-D3s and they are wearing very well (although I also went with the Hotchkis suspension setup, which is very nice - ~$400) . The RE040s suck. Owners of other cars are complaining about them also. Just check out the RE040 reviews at tireracck.com

I wish all of you the best of luck in addressing the problems with the Z and hope that Nissan finally steps up and provides a fix. I just sold my 03 Brickyard Enthusiast partially out of frustration and partially out of the need for four seats.

Good luck!

I am getting the feathering for the second time, at 35k after they changed my tire and did alignment at 24k. Now Nissan tells me it's my responsibility to replace tire and alignment... what a loaded xxxx...

i almost feel it's time for a new car....

Nice, but damn thats expensive ($1500.00) to correct what should have come right from the factory in the first place.
