Default Squeeking!?

Every now and then when I leave my car out in the rain my belts start to squeek like hell. It rained two days ago, and my belts are still squeeking! Does this mean I need new belts? The noise is making me feel ghetto! :cook:

do you have an aftermarket hood? I only ask about this because I have herd of people with vented hoods having this problem.

the belts should last you into the 90k mile range. Humidity does cause the squeaks but u might have a leak somewhere?? Water in or around belts causes that nasty ghetto squeaking noise..

stock hood.

How does water leak under the hood to the middle of the engine?

It was left out in the rain and wasnt driven in it, when I started it up the squeek was there. Water never had time to splash from under the car.

I almost drive my other car (94 saturn SL2 ) b/c the noise is so ghetto!

EDIT: it has also been dry for 2 days in my parking garage, if it was wet wouldnt it have dried up by now?

I've had the same problem too. I already changed the belts and the noise is still there on cold days.

Just replace the belt. It's not too expensive. Sometimes the belt will crystalize, causing the squeeking noise. I've changed the belt on my 97 Eclipse many times for this reason. Also make sure not to accidentally spill antifreeze or any other fluids on your belt. This will make it squeek sometimes.

The belt might not be tightened properly, belts can get loose over time as the expand slightly.. you can tighten them.

I also heard cases of the crankshaft seal ****ting out with resulting pulley wobble. Do you have an oil leak on the crankshaft?

do you have an aftermarket pulley?

I do have an aftermarket pully.

But I bought the car with it on there, and this noise is only recent.

I don't think this is true, I have an 03 with 53K on it and my belts need to be replaced. Then again i have an APS TT that i have had on for 25k so maybe its adding more stress on them. Thought i'd let yal know.

I just started having the same problems. I noticed on a wet cool day (40's) just yesterday they were squeeking for a while even after the car warmed up and drove for an hour. Is this kind of thing covered under warranty if I need new belts? I've only got 28k miles on the clock. Anyone bring it to a dealership for this kind of thing?

If I did want to try and tighten them myself anyone have pics of what I have to tighten (sorry newb here)?

Thanks!

There is a product called Belt Ease. Spray it on the belts and it cleans the belts and pulleys. Good stuff.

Hey, Your Aftermarket Pulleys Are The Cause Of This Noise. I Too Installed The Unorthodox Pulleys On My 04 Z. And I Get That Noise Too. An Installer Over At Stillen Told Me That They Will Squeal Any Time You Have Aftermarket Pulleys Because They Made Out Of Aluminum Which Is A Lot Softer Than Metal. This Will Create More Dust On Your Belts Making Them Squeal.

my car ONLY squeeks when it is wet outside. It never squeeks when it is dry, so that is why it is kind of stumping me.
