Default Oil Change ?

I stored my ZR, Feb 06. I changed the oil (reg. oil) and not the filter due to it not being started the whole time in storage. I am returning to move my family in Sep 06, and have to drive the ZR down to TX (700 miles). I am then storing it for another 5 months.

My question is:

1. Do I need to change the oil before I go on the road trip?

or

2. Its okay, just change it when you store it again?

Does the oil break down while sitting in the crankcase, thus I need to change the oil/filter before my road trip and again when I store it?

I have 18 quarts of Mobil-1 but I have been holding off putting it in my ZR until I return in Mar 07.

I just hate to waste time and $. When I get to TX I have to change it again before I put it in storage. Thoughts?

Well I would not worry about it. I heard that synthetic oil tends to evap. over time. I would just change it once you put it into storage again.

condensation in the pan is your main enemy if the engine is not ran or even started for extended lengths of time. It tends to be worse in climate were I live up by Seattle (cold & high humitity)

Also one thing to think about is that the filter may break down over time. Dont know what kind of filter you use, just something to think about.

Another quick ?

My ZR has been sitting in my garage for over 6 months and has not been started.

Should I:

Start it and let the engine warm up before I change the oil?

Do not start it and change the oil?

Thanks, just trying to do the right thing since that oil has been sitting for 6 months!

Cylinderking is correct in saying that condensation will begin to contaminate your oil. If my Z was sitting for 6 months, I'd drain all the oil first and then try starting it with fresh oil in the crankcase. Once you get down to Texas, I wouldn't change the oil again if it's going into indoor storage. Just do another oil/filter change when you return.

Thanks, it was a pleasure meeting you those few times you organized the track days. I just wished I would have had a chance to track my ZR, would have been fun.

I am going to miss Colorado! Take care!
