Question Can all of you guys downshift normally???

I absolutely can't downshift into second NO MATTER WHAT unless I double clutch and rev-match it. If I do rev-match the gear, it goes in lickety-split with 0 resistance. Every other gear except first behaves normally, with the synchros doing the job they should. I'm just wondering if the second gear synchro is this finicky with everyone's car or not. I've only got about 700 miles on my car now and as I've said before, I'll have the dealer check the tranny out when I go in for my break-in service. I honestly was just wondering if the rest of you, especially those with tranny probs, couldn't downshift into second normally either. Thanks...

Nope, mine slides into second no problem without double-clutching. Sounds like you have bad synchros or something. I'd take it to the dealer -- maybe you can get a new tranny from Nissan like some others have.

Well, I figured the synchro was bad, since its not doing its proscribed job. I just wanted to hear from you guys to see if it was common. Its nice to hear from at least ONE person that can downshift without double-clutching...

yeah it goes in smooth when i rev match it.. but like slowing to a stop.. its kinda hard. Doesn't really bother me much tho since i only downshift to 2nd when i'm going like 8+mph on a turn

My car seems to be a little touchy when downshifting into second. I thought maybe it was because I am new to a manual. It seems that if I slow down and downshift from 4th to 2nd there is a little resistance. Can't remember if I noticed any goind from 3rd to 2nd. Every other gear, upshifting and downshifting is smooth.

I just got my Z on February 11... and that is the first thing I noticed -- it takes more effort to get into 2nd. All other gears are great - smooth as silk --

a reason could be is that 2nd gear takes the most abuse out of all the gears. So Nissan made it "extra tough" to withstand a lot of beatings

Default 2nd gear downshift

1st and 2nd do have different, double cone, sychros from the other higher gears, but that shouldn't make a difference. I downshift into 2nd frequently when turning onto residential streets, my driveway etc and have never had a problem in 1200 miles. I couldn't find 3rd once or twice in a downshift, but think it was me, not the tranny. No tranny problems so far. Your tranny is definitely not mormal and Nissan should fix it. Good luck.

The double cone synchros should make it EASIER to get into gear.
