I just ordered oil filters and a socket style filter wrench from Courtesy Nissan. Arrived in two days. The package looked way too small, and I thought that some items were back ordered. My surprise! The oil filter isn't much bigger than a shot glass...seriously

Is there something new in filter technology that allows a filter this small to work on a high performance engine? The label on the box indicates that Nissan Part # 15208-65F00 fits a 350Z, G35, Maxima, and Infinity I30...so it is the recommended filter.

 

that's right... it is the "new and improved" hi-tech nissan oem filter

It has very fine microfilter that can work like the conventional larger filter... (bs inserted)

you can always get 15208-9E000, it's the larger one that fits.

 

...and get out a heavy duty offset wrench or pipe wrench, cuz the factory o filter was put on by godzilla!!!!!!!!

 

I've heard numerous complaints about the arm strength of Nissan assembly line workers in putting on the filters--I guess they're mostly high-tech machines now.

Fortunately the next will be the 4th oil change, and it should be easier to get off because of the relative arm strength of California Nissan workers.

Its 8K miles and I'm switching to Red Line and want to see what goes on underneath anyway.

Its not the size that matters, its how you use it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Yeah, when I went to buy one last weekend I had the guy look up the part number three times to make sure. The filter on my old 280Z was about 2.5 times the size of the 350Zs.

 

Cali, Miami, Texas??? You're not appreciating my point- it's not about strength!!! Up here in the north, we have to wait for the thermometer to get above 0 (farenheit) to perform this task on a cold, concrete garage floor!!! You need to be Nascar fast!! Taking an extra half hour to remove and reinstall the shield, rather than loosening 2 bolts and using conventional tools is not fun this time of year (up north).

(Yeah, I know- stop whining and move where it's warmer!!! LOL)

just curious but when I took my skid plate off, I noticed a large hole coincidently placed right under the filter. do you have to remove the plate, or is it just easier?

 

the hole is perfectly placed for draining the oil, but I find it too tight to get up in and remove/replace the oil filter. It's much easier to drop the 2 closest diffuser bolts and pull it down slightly.
