Default a/c kickin on and off by itself

My a/c kicks on for a few secs then shuts off on it's own. What's goin on? Anyone else have this problem before? Btw, I have an '04 Touring w/ 18K miles.

Thanks,

Chad

I very rarely use my a/c. Maybe 20 times in 3+ years.
I was in a drive-thru restarant this morning just sittin there and it happended. It also happened the other day while driving thru a parking lot in 2nd gear doing about 20mph. It just kicks on for a few secs then shuts off. Btw, I'm having a dificult time figuring out what wot is.

Thanks again for your help,

Chad

Do you have the fan set to auto temp? I think it will kick inthe a/c if it thinks the cabion temp is too high.

Mine started doing it this summer as well. Not sure what is causing it but as soon as I reach over to make sure its turned the whole way off, it stops...usually makes me laugh. It's probably done it a dozen times now. I'm not worried about fixing it unless it decides not to stop, but its just plain weird.

An A/C compressor will cycle real fast when the system doesn't have enough refrigerant in it. You might want to take it in and have the refrigerant level checked.

Thanks for the replys guys. It's not set to auto. It's nice to know that it's not just my ride. If it keeps it up I guess I'll have it looked at. I'll call the local exorcist just in case as well.

Are you actually looking at the compressor clicking on and then off again? If so that is normal operation. However, like Brice-350z said if the compressor is cycling rather rapidly (like every second), then you have a problem.

Thanks for the definition quicksilver.

I was sittin in a drive-thru at idle with the a/c in the off position when all of a sudden the a/c light came on and air started to come out of my vents. It ran for maybe 5 seconds then both the light and air shut off. It didn't do it again for the 15 minute drive home. I hope that's a little better explanation.

I apreciate your persistence with me,

Chad

check the connector and make sure it's not loose on. there is a ribbon connected to switch and it may cause this to happen.

damn...the link doesn't work anymore. if someone can chime in on how removing the shift **** area where having easy acces to the A/C control panel would be a big help.
