Default octan gas

wat kind of octan gas Z33 driver's usually using?
will it do any harms if we have a higher grade of octane gas than what the owners manual says?
or will the total distance u can travel decrease?
thanks for the information

i run 91 pump since that is the grade for premium gas in CA. In theory, running higher octane then specified for the engine can only hurt your wallet. Actual performance gain is questionable. But running lower then speficied octane can increase pinging and lead to engine damage.

BTW, anyone know what kind of gas are specified for other Nissan 3.5L VQ equipped cars. Since Altima 3.5 is only 'rated' at 240Hp..does it require only 87 octane or does th that car also require premium grade?

Altimas only require 87 octane, but 91 is recommended for better performance.

Default 100+ Octane

I have run 3 tanks of $4.99 100 octane gas now and see absolutely no difference.
Save your cash and run 91.

what brand of 100octane gas do you folks get in AZ? Here in Cali, some Unical 76 carry "Nascar Fuel" which i think is also 100 octane, but it runs more like $5.50/gallon if you can find a station that has them.

Significantly higher octane than required can actually reduce performance and milage due to reduced speed of combustion. Stick to what is recommended unless you are using forced induction, then you will need all you can buy. 100 octane gas in a stock motor is a major waste of money.

Could probably get away with 87 octane ,but performance maybe down and pinging up.

93, nothing less. When I go to the track, I try to mix 1 gallon of 103 with 3 gallons of 93 (the ECU can't adjust too much more past 94 from what I understand)

I'm not sure that higher octane is cleaner. I thought that cleaning finction was mostly related to the detergent additives in the fuel like Chevron's techron and etc. I thought that octane relates to resistance to premature combustion from compression--but I am no expert.
