Default My 2nd thread about this gas tank issue.

Well I posted up before about this issue. I had put in 40 dollars at maybe 3.20 a gallon and it took it from empty to full, and only took 39.50 of it anyway. I took it to the dealership finally after the third time it happened. They told me to let it go until the light came on and then fill it. The tech also did something when the car was off, he pushed a button and my gauges came up and told me some bs about that saying its a good thing.

Anyway, after a week I finally hit the gas light for the first time on the way to work. After work I drove about 15 miles home to see the gas station thats always open, was closed. The one across was also and so was wawa's not even half a mile away. My fuel gauge said i had 19 miles to empty at 24mpg. I figured I would risk it back to the route 9. I set the cruise and was gettin 32mpg at 50. It was about 20 miles away but the gas gauge was blinking 12 until empty. Just as i pulled in the gas station closed, I went to another one 5 miles down and told him to fill it up. Now this still doesnt seem normal and im sick and tired of Freehold Nissan's ********. I'm going to have to schedule an appointment now. Take a look. It took 15 gallons... almost. EDIT: I floored it WOT multiple time before getting to the first gas station, I wanted to be as empty as I could, then still had to drive all the way back the other way to get gas. No way I have 5 gallons left when the gas light comes on.

Any input?

For what it's worth, my car will usually take around 15 gallons when the light comes on. The most I've filled the car up with is around 19 gallons flat and that was after running the car on --- for quite a while.

you know that the car is supposed to say when you're low on gas when you have about 2-3 gallons left. Because manufacturers know that people dont always have cash to put in car. I've ran my car near empty for about 50 miles.

have you ever considered that the car may have an "idiot buffer" to where it says 0 miles till empty but still keeps some gas in there so fools dont run out of gas trying to push every mile?

what some people complain about sometimes is funny. Whats the big deal about when you are on "empty" that you dont fill up every drop?

Thanks for your input. Sorry I bought a car that was 32k dollars, I would like to know the gas gause is accurate. I would like to know I have a range of at least 400+, figuring at least 20mpg and 20 gallons. I guess the important things like gas gauges dont bother you since thats why you bought a base and spent lots of money on mods and still run a slower 1/4 on my worst run with my stock touring auto. Sorry I dont like to throw mud but that kind of bothers me. Again I refuse to beleive I have 6 gallons left when the gas light had been on for an hour, with multiple WOT runs.

Also like to point out, I dont think im the only one with this problem. BTW, anyone have cheaper gas than i paid?

i told you its a built in buffer. It is basicly so you will have enough gas for about 40-50 miles to get to a gas station.

I mean personally. I think thats great because if other cars said low on gas then 5-10 minutes later. Ran out of gas. I'd be very bummed. But instead I have a buffer zone of 2-3 gallons to get to a gas station.

I mean if it does bother you. Go to a dealership and tell them to get you a new ECU, fuel tank, and fuel gauge(which will still give you the same symptons you dont like). They cant replace one tiny part in your gas tank. The computer makes calculations based on whats left in the gas tank. With a potentiometer. Which is basically a variable resistor when it gets to the bottom it will display the Low on Fuel light. But the actual gas tank is larger then the potentiometer can read. By about 2-3 gallons. giving you time to get to a gas station.

And the computer is programmed to calculate by the potentiometer in your gas tank to give you, your mileage based on multiple sensors in your car. But I might be wrong if I say that it has been programmed to also include the extra fuel in the tank.

If you dont believe me go ask a dealership. If I'm wrong, come back and tell me.

Well I would hope your 07 would be faster, congrats! Actually I could care less about 1/4 times, mine isnt the fastest, but its fast enough for what I do with the car.

And I bet your not the only one with this problem, I would be willing to bet that every Z made doesnt stop dead on the road when the DTE reads -- or 0.

After having my fuel gauge more or less stop reading correctly (I drove 150 miles with the gauge at empty, light on, etc..., I had the Nissan dealership look into the problem and they replaced the upper and lower fuel level sensors. At that time, I was told that the factory calibrates the system to read for an 18 gallon tank, not a 20 gallon tank.

Not sure exactly how true this is, but it does kind of make sense when seeing the gauge read empty and only fill up 14 gallons.

Well, thanks for the intelligent responses guys. It's just that when the tank is filled, it will never give me a range of more than 300 miles... I mean at minimum of say 18 mpg, i should get 350+. I usually get 20 even mixed with city and highway speed roads. No matter what mph im getting, if 30,25, or 20, it still reads high 200's. Thats the thing that bothers me. And at half a tank just now it it said 120miles, at 20mpg. So it mind boggling.
