When I went in to get my clicking rear axle TSB back in 05 or 06 they told me my battery was faulty and they replaced it under warranty... I hadn't noticed anything wrong with it but they didn't charge me for it so I didn't really care.. I have not had any problems with it since then... 73k miles

My 06 has its original still. I don't daily drive it, so I'm pretty shocked. At the very least, the car gets started once or twice a week. Usually, I try and drive it atleast once a week. Small town redneck traffic sucks when you give a damn about your car.

My 06 Z battery die exactly after 48 months and just over 50,000 miles. Daily driven in all seasons.

It was still starting just fine last week but after leaving my Z at the body shop for a few days do some body work and oil change, it doesn't want to start.

Was told that battery doesn't hold a charge. But when I was able to get the 4 year old battery jump started, it reads 14V and the car drives just fine. However, after driving for 20 minutes, shut the car off, it doesn't start again.

Unfortunately because it says 14 v doesn't matter...what matters is the cold cranking amps, which i'm sure yours are low.

I'm still on the original battery. I have 33K miles on my 2003 Z. I garage it every winter and figure the battery will be dead in spring... but it starts right up. Must be an eveready battery.

does it matter which battery to get? I see this special on advanced auto parts. 20% off if you order online. what do you think? is it worth spending $200 dollars?

My car's been a bit hesitant lately when trying to start it, im figuring its the battery. It has a bit more than 3 years now, so after reading some of this thread seems about average time.
The battery Gauge hasn't really changed though, still shows about the same (between 12 and 16 i think, can't recall the exact numbers but towards the top of the gauge)...if the gauge marks the same charge, and the battery is indeed dying...any point in that battery gauge?

Yes it matters. I posted Consumer Reports test results. Very informative.

If the gauge is still reading good, I would imagine the charging system is working properly. Sounds like your battery is weak though. If you were to test the Cold Cranking Amps of the battery, it would read low.

I'm now at 75 months, but I'm starting to get nervous; I may break down and buy a new one, even though mine is still working. I thought about having this one tested first, but it seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

I bought my Z on July 1, 2003 and I still have the original battery. Let me see, that would now be 86 months and 3 days.

I purchased my car on January 15, 2003 (after ordering it on August 30, 2002). I've now had my car almost 92 months. And the battery is likely older than that since my car was built in November 2002.

I'd really be surprised if it makes it through the upcoming winter though. It just can't last forever.

Last week, I noticed that my Z had a slight hesitation during startup. I did some reading, and figured it might be the battery. I figured I had a little time and would get it checked-out on the weekend. On Saturday afternoon, I was heading out....and decided to throw a set of jumper cables in the back. I was thinking of going to Autozone and get the battery tested, but I decided to take a peek before heading-off. The battery posts were clean/normal, but I checked inside the 6 individual cell caps and it looked dry. I figured this might be an easy fix!!! I had read about adding distilled water, so I drove off to get some.

I added the water, the car started with no-problems. At this point I'm thinking I just saved myself $100. I went off to get a quick car wash and figured I should go for a longer drive to help "charge" the battery. I decided to got to Fry's Electornics. I spent about 1/2 hr in there browsing and bought some crap I didn't need....

I came out and it's already dark (around 7pm). I go to start the car and OH-OHH. Lights work, voltage looks good on the gauge, but it's not starting. I'm guessing that the water diluted whatever was in the battery and diminished the cranking capacity. What to do now??? Call AAA? Call gf to pick me up to go buy a battery and do a quick replacement? or get a jump? At this point I'm upset at myself for creating this situation...I call my gf and she just makes it worse by asking me all types irrelevant questions ( I just need her to drive here so that I can jump start the car and deal with this tomorrow).

Out of the corner of my eye I see a older guy having a smoke outside of his car. I figured what the hell, and go over and asked him if he can do me the favor and give me a jump. He was cool; I had not even noticed that he was driving a Prius... Batteries on wheels!!!

The Z started right away, I thanked the guy a bunch of times and I was on my way home. The next day, I wake up early with the intention of getting in my other car to go get a new battery for the Z. In the parking lot, I see the Z and expected it to be dead, but I decided to check anyway...Guess what???? It started right away with no hesitation at all. Now I'm thinking, will this be a repeat of yesterday? I went for a short drive on the Z and came back home. shut off the car / started it back up. I did this a few more times with no problems. Repeated this on Monday. I guess the OEM battery will keep on ticking after 68+ months and 32K+ miles. I do plan on getting it tested for peace of mind.

Long story short, check your water level and get your battery properly tested/charged and save yourself from being stranded.

Yep that is a month longer than mine has lasted. I've never had mine on a battery tender though. Mine usually never sits for more than a week without me driving it.

BTW I just checked the water level in the batter yesterday. No low levels at all and I've never added any water to it.
