What is this freaking noise?!!!
Ive read up on a lot of car noise about it clunking/rattling/creaking/popping and what not. But i have a serious problem with my car and it only has 700 miles on it. When I drive it in the morning, I hear this repetitive annoying noise. The only way I can describe it is, it sounds like a million stones and hail is hitting my car. I guess the only other way I can describe it is a 'clinking' noise but its very quick and repetitive. When I first drive it, its very repetitve and when I drive the car for a little bit, the noise recedes but is still there when I drive it. Im taking it to the dealership tommorow but am I in serious trouble and has anyone else have a similar problem with their Z? I mean..Ive owned many high end sports cars, but the 350, has to beat them all in terms of problems when u drive it off the lot.
well at least im not alone! Hehe...well mine was bought only a few weeks ago. Dont know the exact pickup date. My car was actually flat-bedded from another dealership. It is definitely a later model 2003 so it isnt one of those pre-order ones. Im taking it in tommorow and see whats up. Ill post as soon as they tell me whats wrong with it.
Ok, don't get mad, but this is going to sound stupid......
When I leave my house in the morning, I have a sound that is identical to what you are describing...it's like a million little stones hitting the car, and it actually is a ton of small stones or tar or whatever from the road getting picked up by the tires and flung up against the wheel wells.....

I describe its as a creaking noise when you start from a stop...
Another thread claims dealers who have lubed the rear axel spindles clears it up.
I had this on my list on the last dealer visit.. and they 'didn't hear it'.. argh.. I hate going to the damn dealer.

Yea, well at least I know its the damn pebbles that have been causing the noise ive been hearing. Kinda funny tho, the service guy tried to feed me some bs about the car rusting as a possible cause for the noise.

i think i am having the same problem too. From a start it would make that crazy sound! The dealer said it is because i lower the car and that's why it make that noise. i had the car lower for 5 months now and the noise just started a few weeks ago. And i am having this poping sound when i turn the steering wheel. Does anyone else have that problem?
It could also be the EGR valve on the car. Especially if its coming on in the morning. It could also come on randomly during the day as well. It's "normal" (or so the dealer says) but not every car has it. It's basically your fuel system recycling vapors to conserve fuel and increase mpg. It doesn't effect performance, though I know it's really annoying. Good Luck. Peace and Resistance.
