Man this is still an issue huh? Has it happened with the 06s? I am assuming it has since they have not updated the transmission.
For those of you considering trading it in for a different vehicle, I have had my S2000 for 10,000 miles now and not a single problem (knock on wood of course).
I sometimes miss the Z, but then I remember the Kia Sedona rental I had to beg them to pay for, and how it used to grind and creak... The S2000 is every bit as much fun to drive as the Z was.

S2Ks have problems too, i remember a larger disucssion at some point, but a quick search of the S2k forums shows a lot of people are having a 1-2 upshift issue.

They referer to the problems with our cars on thier site, as well as EVOs, WRXs, Celicas. No brand is immune to problems

There have been some, but not nearly as bad, or as common as the issues with the 350Z. No car is perfect, but it seems that a lot of Zs are grown from lemon trees. Just my opinion from what I have seen, and the Z I owned.

I have an 04 and was wondering if all z's will eventually have these transmission problem? This really gets me worried b/c i have been using as more of a cruising car and don't want to have the warranty gone when it breaks. Are the new transmissions being replaced for the broken ones rebuilt?

well you've got 3 more years on your warranty. Not all will have it, a lot of them do on this board, how representive of the real world is that? who knows. There are others on here that have 03 and 04s that have not had a problem. When they do need it, they are being completely replaced with newer revisions (if a newer one is available), I havn't heard of any getting rebuilt.

Have had no issues with my Z in the tranny dept ( 04 base manual six speed), except a notchy 1st to 2nd shift. It usually improves as the tranny warms up. Its actually a low milage car as most of the miles on it are commute to and from work and short distance trips. As a result perhaps my time with a bad transmission is yet to come.

"06 tranny Daytona Base
Al, I'm currently having a problem with my '06. When I shift from 3rd to 4th, it seems tight? Sticky. My wife has had the same problem with the same gear. We both know how to shift. The dealer took the Z out for a ride and noted the same problem in the repair sheet. They said due to the low mileage ( 500 Miles) that we wait till the break-in period is over. I'm willing to wait a short time, but!!! SullyZ

tranny replaced on my 03 base w/25k miles
so after developing the 3rd gear grind (its almost starting to sound like a right of passage with owning a 1st year 350z) they are going to replace my tranny. but it was a PITA getting them to do it. when I first developed it the service dept manager took me on a ride to try and replicate it and he couldn't get it to happen. but he did say my clutch was very heavy so they ordered a new pressure plate. when it came in a month later they found out that the clutch was messed up too, so they had to hold my car and order that. finally when they took the thing out to test it after they finished installing the new clutch and pressure plate they finally got the grind to replicate so they said they are replacing the trans. I told them I wanted the 009 trans so I'm crossing my fingers. let me just all that I consider myself an excellent MT driver and I've been extremely easy on this car. no racing, or hard driving what so ever but it doesn't seem to matter. good luck to all those with the trans issues, and all those who think all is good but will be developing the problem soon.

Tranny/Clutch Replaced
Transmission/Clutch Replaced at 29,000. VIN 2969 I developed 3rd gear grinding at 28,000. Have not had any problems getting Nissan to replace. Dealership got the replacement approved within 2 days of their inspection. They did not have a problem duplicating the problem. So, it's in for fix now....3/8/06. They indicated that this is a newly engineered, problem fixed(beefed up syncros) transmission. I hope so.
