Cool motor on driver's side Window

hi guys,

i am having a problem with my driver's side car window. I believe its the motor. Essentially i now need to bang the inside of the door and eventually it grabs the window and it winds up.

My car is a 350z GT import so the indicator and wiper controls are on opposite sides, if that makes a difference to anything.

If anyone knows if this is a typical problem and where i should be getting a part from. i think i need to order it from the U.S.

any help and info is much appreciated

thanks

you either need a new window motor (150$) or you need to take out the current one and clean up all the carbon build up. clean up jobs can get you by for a while but it's not that easy to access. there is a DIY post in the DIY section if you want to read into it.

good luck.

Just happened to me as well over the weekend. I also banged on the door a little and it has worked since then.

Keep the banging confined to the bedroom.

lol - the banging of the panel or slamming the door just shifts the carbon and helps the metal make contact. the build up remains though and will be back in place before you know it : )

my window wouldn't come up a couple weekends ago, I had to resort to shutting the door a little harder then normal.. going to clean it this Saturday and see if I can get by without buying a new motor or not. printed up that DIY post - excellent directions there.

Followed the DIY instructions on here and it worked!!!
I did this just this weekend too.
Great instructions took me about 3 hours the first time around.

For $130 I would just replace and forget about it. Anyone who has done the cleaning method with success for an extended amount of time?

I’ve done both, the cleaning and replacing. I agree your better off replacing it because it only gives you about a month and then the motor just goes altogether anyway. I’ve replaced my drivers side twice and passengers side once. AutoZone sells the motor refurb with life time warranty or if you have a warranty take it in to the dealership and save yourself the hassle.

I've cleaned my driver's side window motor about 4 times now. After X amount of the times, the cleaning won't do a damn thing to help out your situation.

At the moment, my driver's side window will not work 99.9% of the time (not exaggerating), unless I bang on the door. Also, if the window ever happens to go down all the way, it takes me at least 30 bangs to get it to come back up. Additionally, my window can't go up all the way, so I have to palm the window and help it up. FAIL.

I suggest you replace the window motor all together. AutoZone should sell this for $120-130, I believe and they give you a core refund (if you turn in your old motor). So, in the end, it comes out to be $90-100 and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

yikes, I'm counting myself lucky (knock on wood)

trying cleaning first, then buy a new one if that doesn't work
