Just curious if anyone has had difficulty with their car battery draining repeatedly. I cant leave the doors open for a second now without the battery draining and the car unable to start. Have had to charge several times, and jump started also. I love the car WHEN IT STARTS. Just a bit frustrated.

 

Go to Pep Boys or something similar, they check them for free.

You might need a new battery. How long have you had your car?

If it isn't your battery, then take it to the dealer, it could be a bad alternator thats not charging the battery.

battery might have a bad cell
alternator is not charging- does the needle get to 14 volts when you are running? alternator could have lost a diode- these things happen, but not often
did you add an after market item on the buss without a relay connected to the ignition switch?
go to Checker or AutoZone or PepBoys, they can check the system in 5 minutes for free, then head to the dealer with knowledge... good luck

 

Well nissan replaced the body control module and once again charged up the battery. Car is starting fine again so far. The few days before i brought it in for the appointment the battery would die every time i shut the car off.

 

well it didnt take long for the battery to drain again. had the radio on while washing it and within an hour the car wouldnt start. now the dealer is going to replace the battery instead of trying to charge it. ugh! is this going to end?

 

do you have heated seats? that's one of the reasons for draining battery. otherwise, there might be a short.

 

dont have heated seats. haven't added anything aftermarket yet. I'm going to test this new battery and if its not favorable then you're probably right about a short.

 

well, sounds like either a short (per dj) or the alternator is simply not connected somehow. That is about the only two things that can create your problem.
Did someone (ie., other than the dealer) test the charging circuit?? You need to see 14 volts or so on the battery poles or the battery will not be returned to full charge. Actually anything over about 13.5volts is OK. Less than 13 is death to the battery.
If you drain a wet cell type battery deeply more than a few times, the plates will be damaged (unless you get a deep drain type like those used in electric cars). After the plates are nicked, they will not allow a full recharge, nor will they give or allow a full current flow, and the death spiral ensues. Optima cylinder type batteries can be more resistant to this problem, but really don't last any longer. Out here in Phoenix, a battery lasts only about a year no matter what. Go to Checker and get a load test on your system. Good luck

 

thanks john, dealer replaced the battery four days ago and now all is well. like you said the battery must have been unable to recover from the few times is was drained.
