I fixed mine recently. Make sure you buy the upright brushes, I didn't and had lots of sanding to do to make it fit right. Other than that, good as new. Can't beat that for $4

The brushes in the auction i linked look to be the upright ones, heck, even if not it was just under 8 bucks. I kept my old motor after putting a refurb from O'reillys in so I can try to repair it, "if" the refurb goes out I'll see if it actually worked and if so I can then repair that refurb or return it with life time warranty thing and get another. I hope I never have to find out though

Brushless RC motors with a standalone Electronic Speed Controller and direct 12v wiring give the most torque and HP. I literally smashed my drivers side window after modding mine and I haven't had a problem with my window since.

Binder, the ones you have linked to above, are you saying that they are crap? I don't know jack about RCs, but need to buy brushes (like many others no doubt!) I have seen from some posts on RC websites that certain types of brushes last longer than others. If you happen to see any good quality brushes that you'd reccomend for the job, do post a link.

Cheers and thanks for starting a great thread.

If this works then I'm going to try the same surgery on my 5th bow motor on the convertible roof, that has been quoted as a $1200 - $1500 repair. Nothing ventured, nothing gained... or saved for that matter!

i think he's using "crap" in the "emphasis word" role. substitute with "damn": "still cheaper than a motor but damn, i paid less than..."

Amazon sell the exact same ones that Tower Hobbies sell, these work out at $6.17 a pair which includes the shipping and handling. Just ordered a pair, will see how it goes. Much better than paying the Tower Hobbies $9.99 shipping charge!

wow, i'd do amazon also. I didn't know shipping would be that much since they will fit in an envelope and are under the weight limit for a single stamp.

Ok, now the gunk that is in the hole surrounding the contacts? is that a silicone based compound? reason I ask is that I always thought silicone sealer was highly corrosive. Does anyone know where or if you can buy non-corrosive sealant?

it's silicone based but it's no corrosive. I didn't put anything back in there once i put mine back together. I just left it open incase (which is almost a certainty) i'll have to replace the brushes again.

Default Don't remove the goo!

I went to a local hobby shop that sells parts for RC cars. I purchased a set of electric motor brushes at a huge 0.79$ pricetag for each.

The rebuild wasn't hard. The worst part about it was removing some sticky goo off the side of the of the case which houses some wires. Then the wires have to be unsoldered so the whole brush assembly can be pulled out the top.

I didn't take as many pictures as i should but here are a few. Pics of the old brushes, pics of the new brushes and the assembly. The old brushes were worn down to only about 3mm long which is small. I had to do a little sanding on the new brushes a small amount to make them move smoothly.
Awesome post, but I just got done doing the re-build on the 5th bow motor (almost identical procedure), and you don't need to remove the goo or do any de-soldering in that area. The housing that contains the brushes actually just slides in and out and has 2 gold coloured pins holding it in place, it takes a bit of wiggling but it will just slide out! You will still need to solder the brush contact points. I embedded a photo from my tutorial to show you. Hope this helps. It should save you all a little time with the procedure.

^ have you done this with a power window motor before? from what I remember, those pins were soldered in place and there's not really any way to remove them unless you remove the silicon and desolder the metal.

they are 1 continuous piece. There is no connection in there. It's a 90* bend and out the side so it isn't like that picture there. I've had quite a few apart so far and there is no connection like that.

binder after further inspection, and viewing other photos I beleive you are correct and I am wrong. The window motor does indeed look like it's soldered on those two pins. The 5th bow motor that controls the top on the convertible looks very similar with the excpeption that the pins pull straight out with no de-soldering required. I apologize for jumping the gun, I got a tad excited thinking that people might be able to save considerable time on this repair. I saw the pins and thought they might pull straight out! Once again.. sorry.

Not sure why Nissan decided to make it so darn difficult!
