Default Whining noise when accelerating if AC is on. Compressor issues?

When I accelerate I hear a noticeable whine coming from the car and only when the AC is on. What could be causing this? I had my belts replaced about 2 months ago, could they just need to be tensioned up? Or could there be a bigger issue like the pulley or compressor? Curious to see what the problem was for those who've experienced this.

Check the tension. A slipping belt would make noise, and the AC compressor puts more load on the belt than the alternator or power steering pump.

I believe I have the same problem as you. I don't believe it's related to the belt in my case though. Please keep us updated.

Quick update on what happened to me (I've been lurking this thread...lol).

I had the same issue and it ended up being one of my drive belt pulleys. The bearing inside the pulley was making noise so Nissan ordered the part and said it should be safe to drive (since I've been driving with the noise for a couple of weeks) as long as it doesn't freeze. Long story short, just a few days after the part was ordered the pulley bearing froze and locked up while on my way to work. Basically, the car was inoperable. Had it towed back to Nissan while the part was still in transit and being fixed.

Got the Z back a few days ago and all is well. No noises whatsoever drives just like she used to. I'd say take a look at your pulleys - you might have the same problem. Good luck.

Really?! I believe mine froze up on me the other day. I had the car sitting in place making sure it was running right (had just finished working on electrical components) when suddenly I heard a shreaking squeel. Shut the car off immediately and saw smoke coming from engine compartment. Waited a couple minutes and started the car up without any problems.

The a/c wasn't on when it squeeled nor was it when I started it up the second time.

I'm guessing I may need to replace the pulley bearing as well.

I bought my car with the a/c making noise and didn't think much of it, but then I got annoyed, so I bought a used compressor with only 35k miles on it. The noise came back within a day, so now I'm a little stumped. When you say one of your drive belt pulleys, which one was it specifically? I'm trying not to spend unnecessary time and money at this point.

Edit: sorry for bump, I thought it said August 2012, not 2010.

It could be the compressor, But the idler or tensioner bearings can make this noise. My maxima alternator made the noise. Run the car and take a stethoscope or long screwdriver and put it to your ear. Now on each pulley find the middle bolt(That doesn't move!) and listen. The one making noise will be obvious. You'll hear very loud scraping. Be careful not to slip and hit the pulley. Since it only happens on accel you'll need someone else.

Naw, it's loudest on accel, but I can hear it rattling a little bit at idle. I just can't believe that one compressor at 120k miles and another at 35k miles make the SAME noise. There is absolutely another variable in there somewhere.

Damn this thread is old. I sold my car months after that.

I don't have a screwdriver long enough to touch the pulley. I took a long hose and touched the tensioner to see if I could hear anything, nothing. I had my wife turn the A/C on and off while I listened, and the only noise I hear was the A/C compressor. What I am completely confused about is BOTH A/C compressors make the same noise and the one I just put on only had 35k miles. What are the chances that two compressors with a difference of 90k miles between them have the same problem?

Having a similar issue.

Belt will whine very loudly if I turn the wheel too many degrees in the morning (Cold start).

Have to rev it up to 4-5K rpm to get it to warm up (probably bad for the belt/engine). After that it's fine.

However, jiggling/rotary noise continues if I turn the wheel at all in low gear or neutral (can't hear it when driving because hood is closed/inside cockpit.)

Mine is not related to turning the wheel. Does it ONLY happen when the A/C is on? You might have another issue. Also, please don't rev your motor to 5k on cold startup unless you want a new motor very soon.
