Got my OE pads for the front and rear and looking to do my brakes this weekend. I called around and turning rotors are $15 ea but it can take almost 3 hrs. I'm needing someone to help me do the job and use their tools but don't want to sit around doing nothing for that long. A friend recommend just scuffing up the rotors to get any glaze off. I've done brakes before and turned them both times (different vehicles) because it didn't take that long and were a lot cheaper back then. Opinions?

 

FYI--60k on the odom and it's the first time doing the pads.

 

Necessary? Not always. Recommended? Probably.

If they are scored or grooved, then you probably want to have them resurfaced. If they are warped and there's enough material left, you definitely want to do it. If they are really worn (which I would suspect with 60Km on them) they might be too thin and really need to be replaced. BTW - $15 is a pretty good price.

 

No it is not necessary to turn the rotors. Neither is it necessary to replace motor oil every 5,000 miles. Or periodically check tire pressure and coolant level.

 

i get cheap rotors and swap the whole set up every time. 169 bucks for all four ceramic pads and slotted rotors, good steel, zinc coated, countersunk and chamfered holes etc.

Never a single issue.

i do it every year becuase im cool like that.

I generally keep a set of front rotors ready to install. This way I have no downtime turning rotors. You can always sell or giveaway extra rotors.
